After reading almost every post about this radio on this forum and others, I finally broke down and bought one...although a used one with the "Old Glory" faceplate. I've owned many radios in the 20 some years I've been both a CB'r and a ham, but this is a VERY nice radio. I'm not telling those of you who own them anything you don't know, but this is one very nice rig. Yes, the knobs aren't as tight as on a 148 or a grant...but they work fine for me. The audio is both loud AND clean...which is a combination you don't always see. You can beef up the AM audio with a judicious amount of echo...and yes, Patzerozero...you are right: You don't need all the mic gain this radio has. The really special thing about this radio for me is the reciever. It's as quiet as anything I've had on my base station...either CB or ham and it's sensitive. It has good adjacent channel rejection too. If I had any complaints...they could use bigger numbers on the S-meter...but that's my old eyes as much as anything. I have to admit...I'm already thinking about cancelling the Cobra 200 I was thinking about and waiting for the bigger magnums to arrive on the scene. Good Work!!! |
