This meter surprised me and I thought it was worth mentioning. I have a Dosy TFC 3001, Cherokee TM 3000 And a few others but the syncron I must highly recommend for any one who is budget minded or just plain wants a quality RMS meter at a amazing price this meter really surprised me with its accuracy on all scales and its dampened fluid meter movement. This really is a great RMS meter I just wish it had a back lighted meter but it looks like it would not be too hard to install a wheat lamp if you wanted too. Like I said I thought it was worth mentioning.

I believe Copper carries it. It is a good average reading meter for the price. |

I just ordered the Syncron from Copper. I got it because it looks pretty small and will fit in the set-up that I have. I have a pivoting platform that is mounted by the gear shift. My rig is there and external speaker. I can probably fit the Syncron on it too.
Not too sure about the RMS only feature because I like to see the peak swing,... that's just me though. I also wanted a lighted meter.
BUT FOR THE PRICE!!!!, it's a wattmeter and SWR meter with the different power levels, so I bought one. Hey $29.99, that's not bad at all. Radio Shack sells a SWR meter only that's about the same size for $19.99, so for $10 extra dollars, that's not bad either. Copper sells it too so it's gotta be half decent. I know Copper will back it up if there's a problem.
Stepchild, the Dosy is about 4.5"x6"x7" it's a little bit boxy and unsteady if it has to lean up against something in the mobile. The Dosy clear meter is larger than the Syncron though and I believe that the 1000 is not a lighted one. I like my stuff streamline and small. Compact. That's why I'm going to try the Syncron.
When it comes, I'll preview it. Hey, Tech671 chimed in, so it can't be all that bad!! hehehehe LOL

Thanks Xlaxx,I'm with you,I like small streamline equipment for the mobile.I'm not crazy about the rms meters,I've got a Micronta(Radio Shack)swr/watt meter that goes up to 1000w rms that has worked well for several years on my mobile,just time for something new.I've been looking at workman meters but the site has no prices and limited info.Stepchild |

Received the Syncron SWR 2001 NLS yesterday Thursday, 3/20! I ordered it from Copper on Tuesday! UPS shipping got it to VA fast.
I couldn't wait to put it in the mobile. It is mounted below my radio on a plateau stand. I cable-zipped it through the vents on the meter's case. I might mount it on top of the radio with velco so I have a little more seat room for passengers.
The Syncron does perform nicely for an RMS meter. I really like it, but would sure love to have a light mounted inside it. Not sure how to mod this?
The readings seem to be fairly accurate too. The meter is a tad more conservative on wattage readings than my Dosy Test Center. All in all a very nice meter for the price and again, it is small so that's really handy in the mobile.

Well with the help from Haymaker Va, I got my Syncron to light up. Put a lamp inside with a switch. Yes, yes, violated the warranty but it sure is nice-looking at night,...
Just watching it swing and swing and swing! hehehehe

What's the difference between an RMS meter and a PEP meter? Isn't it still reading the same power output? |

Hmmm....rms is the reading you would get checking on am,pep for checking on ssb.
rms stands for Root Mean Squared,(remember highschool algebra?)giving an AVERAGE reading.
PEP or Peak Envelope Power would show you your peak power output in ssb mode being as there is no carrier to read an average output.
thats probley the easiest laymans terms I could think of.
