My amp shopping has narrowed the possibilities down to two units. Bwtween these two amp, which would you get? 1)Palomar Elite "450" W uses 4 x 1446 $160 2)KL-500 that uses 4 x 1446 $230 Both are plus shipping. Is the KL500 worth the higher price? While shopping I got the idea that the name "Palomar" is pretty much a generic name rather than someone's actual trade name, is that true? Is the receive pre-amp on the KL on full time or is it switchable? What say you Copper posters? Thanks, Bill |

I would put the money into a better antenna and/or increasing tower height. |

You will be happy with which ever one you chose. IMHO KL is a little better made amp. Your right that Palomar is and has been a generic name for almost 30 years now. Preamp on Kl is switchable 73 |

I am using the Palomar Elite 450HD, for 1.5 years now. A good unit for the money. Using it with an S9 Magnum. I recently had an issue with the amp hanging up on high, but it was resolved by adding an extra ground from the amp to the seat frame and, using a 6' jumper. The radio is up front and the amp is under the rear seat. |

I have the KL 200p mobile amp. My uncle has 2 KL-400 amps. I have some other friends who have Texas Star amps, which all work great. I personally don't care for Palomar Amps. |

i've installed several of the smaller KL amps, & they've worked flawlessly, & i'm sure have taken a bit of abuse. if it's bang for the buck, i'd say you can't go wrong with 'em. if you WANNA pay for a NAME, pay $249 for a texas star dx400 from copper. CAN'T go wrong there, either. |
