WOW! Two 2879's driving eight 2879's! Texas Star has created a monster! Anyone have this amp yet and can tell us how you like it? What kind of radio you can use? I like how you can use just the 2 pill driver or the 8 pill seperatley or both together! Bet it needs 150 amps easy.

--Haha. Yeah, I have been looking at/thinking about this new amp too! I like the fact that TS put in a built-in fan. It's not cheap, but I think it will be a good amp. TS says it will do 1600 watts, but I have my doubts (how long would that amp. last at that power level? haha). As soon as I get some more funds gathered, I might just call Copper Electronics and see how much I can get one for. Woo hoo!

disclaimer:i LIKE texas star, strong, well built, dependable, maybe a bit overpriced today, & as with MOST amps, a bit generous with claimed output. the original dx1600 just tops 1000. the new one will handle any radio with less then 150 watts PEP(you can lower it by mic gain for those that are doing 175-200...allegedly ). i hear they are getting a little more then the original, real world. if i look, i can probably find a meter that'll show 2kw, but my davemade driver will still key over it

that said, i would NOT dissuade somebody from buying one

Are these amps clean though? Class AB biased is the way to go. Not?

An amp like that really needs to be hooked directly to a BIG 2nd BATTERY that's connected to the main with a piece of BIG WIRE to get the most and reduce resistance, give it all the amps it wants shortest route possible, the volts will follow. My 8 pill has all 2879's, when I drove it with my 2950 and 667V at about 250 it'll deadkey 1k if you want it to and swing about 1400+-. sounds crusty like that. It's better to key about 5-600 and watch it swing. Using the 2970 now, 50 in keys about 350 and swings to around 900+...... That is if I was one to use something like that! (lol)

Would be interesting to see what these draw in amps. I would imagine that a person would need a dedicated 150 amps.

Great amp..sit down and write a list of everything you need to set that baby up and start saving the funds. number one rule,GROUND>GROUND,GROUND. I've been running old school 1999 delta force inline with a ms 500 at 100 dk and pushes out about 600.. 6ga wire install through out the car. Wilson 1000 making contacts all over the world. Actaully been told that it sounds great on sideband.. which confuses me being a class c amp. Good luck with the set-up. 73's GROUND<GROUND is the key....
