Mike07083, BOTH are GREAT RADIO'S and BOTH PERFORM VERY WELL, so it all depend's on what BELLS and WHISTLES you want or will use and how much you want to pay. We have the Magnum S-45 Omega Force and LOVE IT! Personally we HATE any radio with a round meter in it, as it takes up too much space on the front control panel of the radio which mean's moving all the control knob's/switch's closer together to make room for the meter which we NEVER look at or use anyway. If you plan on using it as a mobile I would say S9 because it is designed like a CB and will be easier to change channels, bands, etc... If it is to be a base and you wanted to save some cash I would get the omega. They are basically the same radio with different controls, so which ever you choose they will be the same in the performance dept. |

I second Moonrakers thoughts. I loved my Delta (Omega's little brother?) in my mobile but found it too much trouble to change bands while watching the road. For instance if I wanted to go one band below "E" I had to push the band button till it scrolled all the way around till I started at band A again! Locking your favorite freq's in the memory certainly speeds that process up but again...I'M TRYING TO DRIVE ova Hear! Also the fact that it has a freq DISPLAY and not a "counter" left me in the dark a few times with sideband which is fine in the base where a counter is always in line...the PLUTO is back in the Mudduck pickup till I can score another S9...I'd like the 80w please? ...oh yea...blue lights distract me as well...eyes keep wondering towards that BIG blue banner on the Delta..BUT you'll have that with either radio. The S9 is even harder for me to look at for any length of time...feel like its burning my pupils! For me its like watching a mig welder! You wanna look but just can't! Next S9 will at least have the meter light changed from blue to clear before it hits the mobile. Ah nothing like the soothing green display from the Grant or Pluto for that matter. I know you didn't ask about that but something to consider in the mobile AT NIGHT...jeeze the whole cabin lights up blue! |

Gentlemen, I read a tip somewhere to remedy blinding light from in dash cd players. All it entails is to cut some window tinting available from most automotive spare parts stores and trim to fit the offending display, install and it's all over bar the shouting. Apparently it comes in different shades so you can adjust the colour of the display. Bob CEF 703 |

Hope we're not hi-jacking the thread but I hear you on the tint Bob. Did it to my Grant and Pluto just for grins and a blackout look. DID look good but as I said those are not as bad on the eyes as blue is too me. I was in hope of it cutting a little of the direct sunlight on the display so I COULD see the digits better. Didn't work very well there. As for attempting the Delta....those knobs are ON THERE GOOD! Just ask WildRat and I'm not about to take off that faceplate just for tint If I could cut it clean enough to put it on from the outside that might be an option for the mobile. In the base its fine. By the way, as for sunlight making it hard to see your radios display...NOT SO with the LCD on the Delta or Omega. As long as its somewhat facing you and your not looking at it from too much of an angle its great! You could have DIRECT sunlight on it and still see those lil black digits! DALE: Yes..If fact the "LCR" button works great for that. If read the mail on 19 to and from work and either setup the home channel OR the CEF channel to be my "Last Channel Recall". Takes a push of a button to go back and forth. Hitting any one of the A channels is as easy as going one channel past the NON A. For instance say your on 19...turn the dial to the next channel and viola..your on 19A and that's what the channel display says! "19A" Same goes for all the "A's"....scan feature is also great on road trips. Just hit scan again OR key the mic to stop scanning. Of course I'm still talking about the Delta but the Omega is the same with a few MORE options! Sheesh! Hard to imagine MORE options! |

The Omega Force has more features than the S-9. In my opinion, the only feature the S-9 has I wish the Omega Force S-45 had is the big round meter. The S-45 does have twin meters: a standard retangle meter (they must have made 10 billion of these in the 70's and are trying to use them up) and a bar meter. The memory setting are great. Once you learn your way around this radio I think it actually is easier than a standard cb setup to find your way around in the mobile. Put your favorites in memory and your there at the push of a button. You get all of the inbetween channels on each band too. The modulator really shines when pushing a Texas Star amp! It has echoe sounds that will keep you and your friends entertained for hours. It has the best receive of all my cbs. It gives loud, clear modulation. Mine works best with the Superstar DM-452 mike. I wish Magnum would put out a 175 watt version of this radio. They are putting out a 175 watt of the S-9. May be worth waiting another month and getting that. In the same wattage range, I would still choice my Omega Force right now. Mikefromms |

OK OK so to answer the question..If I were to choose right NOW I'd go S-9 again for the simple fact that although the Omega/Delta radios are fine machines I still want a COUNTER and NOT a DISPLAY on my SSB radio. Well that and the user friendlyness of it all. Sure do miss that radio! I'm a knob guy stuck in a push button world |

It is very easy to get the knobs off of the S9, I did! All you need is a gas torch, large vise grips and a large ball peen hammer. No really, they will come off, it's just scary because the S9 is over priced and it would be difficult to replace not unless you have money pockets, in that case buy two and give one to me. When you remove the knobs you will need something you can get under the knobs with. I called Magnum and they said to use something non-marring (something that won't ding the knobs), I tried a couple of things around here with no luck. Then I said the heck with and got 2 small screwdrivers to use as my pry bars. Put the screwdrivers on opposite sides and under the knobs, and the driver handles facing opposite directions also. Now pry up gently but solidly. Be careful where you place the drivers, you can also put something under the part of the driver touching the radio. Some knobs are easier to get off than others, the two piece ones are the worse because you are prying two knobs up, just be patient, quit if you have too and come back to it later. There is the possibility of pulling the shaft out of the control you are working on. This did not happen to me thankfully on my S9, but it did happen on another radio. The knobs will come off, if you don't believe me go ck out my radio pics. If you decide to put different knobs on and they don't fit like my new ones did, let me know and I will tell you my remedy. |

VanillaGorilla, you make a fine point about the frequency counter. It is only five digits on the Omega Force S-45 and it is kind of fake. Slap forgot that point. Mikefromms |
