I've decided to give up on a search for a PDL II like I used in the 70's and put up a Superhawk from SE. I've done a lot of searches and have read a lot of the information posted in this forum. I've seen reference to "must have" assembly tips. Could someone please post a link to the thread or repost the tips.

I think Tech 808 has had the most recent experience with a SE quad. My last experience was years ago.
I do remember it was suggested to use heat shrink tubing on all the wire ends at the ring connectors to take some of the vibration from the wire to ring terminal joint. That will prolong the life of the wire loops. Also, spray paint the fiberglass spreaders with some white primer to keep the sun from splintering them.
The SE Lightning is a better performer than the PDL2 ever was. You will not be sorry. |

I noticed you live in WI.
After a little over 2 years I had nothing but problem's with wire ends breaking, (CONSTANTLY) NO MATTER what I did or tried!
And from the wind and ice here in the central Mid-West the element tubes running thru the boom wallowing out the holes and almost cutting the spreader tubes in half and boom in half I personally would NOT recommend it.
They just were not designed for the harsh winter's and winds and ice that we have here in the central and upper Mid-West.
I have since replaced my SE Quads with the: M103-HV MAXIBEAM
The M103-HV MAXIBEAM has been far superior in overall Performance, Assembly, Reliability, and taking the wind and ice here in the Mid-West than the the SE Quads ever were and will cost you far LESS money, problem's and headaches.
And the overall assembley is far easier and less time consuming. 
My personal advice/suggestion would be to go with the M103-HV MAXIBEAM from Copper.
