HELLO ALL....HAS ANY ONE HAD ANY EXPERENCE WITH THE SATURN B-100 40" NO "GROUND PLAIN NEEDED" CB ANTENNA?? I LIVE IN A LOFT AND CANNOT PUT UP AN ANTENNA ON THE ROOF. I DO HAVE ACCESS TO THE ACTIC WHERE I COULD MOUNT ONE OF THESE ANTENNAS. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF IT WOULD BE WORTH BUYING.....TY.....MIKE |

First off, i've never tried a Saturn B-100
no GP antenna.
You have a few options. If you have a air-conditioner you could try placing a magnet
mount antenna on it. You could place sheet
metal or foil under any type of antenna to
form a ground-plane. Mount or place near a window
or right outside window for better results.
Or you can try the no ground plane type antenna
as you mentioned. Being only 39" in height, I'm
guessing it probably would not do that well.

I second the dipole suggestion. You can build your own dipole probably out of materials you already have at home. They are directional by the way. All you will need is some 75 0hm coax some porcilan or plastic insulaters a tape measure a soldering iron and about 18 feet of bare solid copper wire. Be sure to have a good swr meter and maybe even an antenna tuner just in case. There are many ways to build one. Vertical or horizontal. An L shaped dipole may work better in your case. Plus the L shape is closer to the impedance of the radio and you could use regular 50 ohm coax I believe. Do some searches on 11 meter dipoles. There are many many ways and they are really simple to build and perform rather well! Just 2 nights ago I chatted with a guy in the Catskill Park in NewYork on LSB and he was using a dipole! Almost 1000 miles away and sounded like a local! Good luck on whatever you decide to do!73

i agree with road worrior about putting one on a airconditioner.id mount a 102sswhip on a magnet and spring on that airconditioner that should work ok.not as good as a base antenna but about as good as your gonna get for your sitation |

I hooked one up down here in the lower Florida Keys to replace a 102" stainless steel whip that I had mounted. The community I am in has a height restriction in the deed covenants, and the whip took me over the height limit. SWRs on my whip tuned across 11 meters from 1.4 to 1.6. My version of a field test down here is talking from house to boat. The B-100 actually got out a little better than the 102" whip with very similar receive characteristics. I was pleasantly surprised. |

THANKS RICK330MAN FOR THAT INFO. WAS THE ANTENNA MOUNTED INSIDE OR OUTSIDE?? ALSO....DALE,I DO HAVE AN AIR CONDITIONER IN MY WINDOW,WHAT WOULD BE BETTER TO MOUNT ON IT,A MAGNET MOUNT WITH EITHER A SS WHIP OR A FIBERGLASS WHIP,OR SOMETHING LIKE A WILSON 500?? My B-100 was mounted outside. The base of the antenna was 12' to 16' off the ground. (I experimented.) The Saturn is not going to perform like a 5/8 wave base station, but it will give respectable performance. |

I heard someone on a Saturn antenna last night. He was loud but he said the recieve wasn't very good. I know a guy who run one on his mobile and he is very pleased. For a vertical antenna I would have to believe it would outdo a dipole.

If you could find a way to ground a get a groundplane under a Wilson 1000 magnet mount, I believe that would like give better results than the Saturn and still meet the height requirements. Just my thoughts. I've had some really good results mobile with the Wilson 1000. Always thought it might make a good base antenna.

just stick it on the ac in window.they have a groundplane kit for the wilson 1k,5k and trucker seies.i used this type of setup worked good for what it was but a regular base antenna was better
i did it cause were i lived i wasnt able to connect a pole to building so i put one on ac unit got around town with 10-20 mile range ...generally .swrs were around a 1.4 if i remember .hope this helps

I bet if you could get the Wilson 1000 up on a tower with the gd/p kit it would work surprising well. It would be good to experiment.
