I had a 2970dx and loved it(sorry I sold it) . I have 2-2950dx. They are great on SSB and AM. Nice large displays for the ageing eyes. |

Did anyone notice the spurs the old 2970 threw out in the 10 meter band? I never knew about this until I read about it on another web sight.
On 27.295 (cb ch. 29) you can also be heard on 28.410. This is not the only freq. it does this on, but it seems to be the worst.
I decided to see how far this "spur" could be heard. After driving about a mile or so from my house and still getting an S-9 on my mobile meter...I quit using the 2970.
I don't know if the 2950 does this as well, but I hope they fixed this in the new DX models. |

I haven't had any complaints with the Rangers, been using 70's and 50's mobile and base for fifteen years or better now, got the "Dual Band 2970" in my truck and love it. |

I have a peaked and tuned 2950DX and along with the chipswitched HR2510 it is hard to chooose between them, they are both excellent radio's. My 2950DX has frequency coverage from 24 to 32mhz. Both radios never have had a problem with drifting off frequency. I do not intend parting company with either of these radio's. |

The RCI 2970 is a good rig, having high level AM modulation which is an added bonus. It has image rejection problems like the 2950, the modification can be found online, but it requires good soldering skills, best left to a pro perhaps.
With heavy duty constant use it can overheat and drive the CPU nuts, so I would recommend fitting twin fans to the heatsink as they eliminate that particular problem. TX audio is excellent. Depending upon the version, the frequency coverage can be expanded well below 24MHz to > 32MHz applicable also to the 2950 also version dependant. Fitting IF active filters can noticably improve selectivity but requires professional or experienced hands due to SMD technology and screening. This is a reliable rig and used sensibly it will give outstanding service for many years. I can recommend it to anyone! |

I'll let you all know how mine goes. My unreal other half has one on it's way for me as a Xmas pressy....yessssss!!!. First BRAND SPANKING NEW radio i have ever had. I can't wait.
