Well, it's got a few holes in the case. And someone put an knob on the side for adjusting the AM power. And it doesn't seem to put out anywhere near 100 watts. Around 30 it looks like. And the SSB meter reads real low. And it powers up, even when the on/off button n is off. So you might be thinking, the radio is junk. Well, in the first ten minutes of hooking it up, I made 4 contacts. And every one of them wanted the radio, it sounded that good to them. And it came with a D104 mic and a stock mic. So it works great, but needs some TLC. But truth be told, I like the 3300 better. I have had 28 contacts on the 3300 since i got it. So she is the one I will keep. But the orange display on the 3500 is way more cooler! |

OK, lets see if these show up. This one is the pair together, with the D104 mic that came with the 3500. And here is a shoot of them in less light. Not the best, but I was trying to show off the freq display. Like I said, the 3300 on the bottom is my fav, so the 3500 will find a new home. But the D104 may stay for a little while. Time will tell. |

hmmmm....was it really a 150 watter, or did someone see the huge heat sink & just assume? they both have tremendous heat sinks, but the amped radio has an 'extension' off the back of it. could the amp be disabled(like is regularly done on the 2990/2995 rci bases)? does the variable control work? i have 1 that the on/off switch is broken, but the volume is still controlled by it. i'd keep 'em both had NS, NB, PEI in there again last night & this AM...have heard a few ME stations in the last month-all on 13 AM. still waiting for you, 'pop! |

30 watt version Pat. On/Off switch doesn't work, but the radio does talk good. I am selling it on a auction site. We'll see if anyone bites. Still think the 3300 is a better radio, but the display on the 3500 is cooler! I don't get to much on AM 13, and SSB 13 is filled with noise. Might try above 40 with you sometime though. I made 2 contacts into NY two days ago on the LSB on channel 47. |

You should be able to get a hundred watt AM carrier out of the radio, but why? Open it up and you will see the AM & SSB power controls towards the back in the center. Adjust the AM for about 25-30 watts and you should easily get a 100+ swing. SSb just open up all the way and you should see about 120 watts pep. I love my AR-3500. It covers 10, 11, and 12 meters and receives way down. |
