Well while playing with my New/Old AR3300 last night a buddy a few miles away shouted me with an offer to buy his Sommerkamp which from what I've seen and since learned via Google is a rebadged and sold in Europe RCI2950....even has an "RCI" channel changing mic.
Somebody must be spreading the word that Hanks on Vacation and has LOADS of Gas money to spend since he's not driving to work for 2 weeks!
Anyway price seemed right at $100 and IS as NEW....not to mention He NEEDED the money and what are friends for? I HAD to do it!
Stock mic cord is still (too) tight as a drum and radio is blemish free. Did I need it? NO :-)
Could I pass on it after seeing it? NO :-) :-)
Anyway I was wondering if it's a RCI2950DX clone or standard 2950 clone?
Has variable power that regulates DK from 5 to 12 and swings 23AM and 35+SSB...also fairly loud for a stock mic....if that helps any?
Also not that it matters but has Orange display.
Just wanted to know Which clone I have when I go to look up data and or manuals?
Not at ALL familiar with the RCI line of radios..although a Copper search shows the 2950 has PLENTY of fans here.

As far as I know, it's a clone of the 2950. Not the DX model. I almost had one a few months ago. Just didn't have the cash at the time. Your getting all the good toys, leave some for me!!

Thanks 'Pop,
Did a little more digging since I posted that and have pretty much come to the same conclusion. Not a problem...just wanted to be sure I was looking up the right adjustments and alignment procedures.
I'll give it a workout and see how I like it. People will laugh here but I'm one of those who LIVES by the S meter :-) I like to see it bounce when I talk as well as helping me when talking to others and watching their signal. Perhaps an external S meter is in order?!
Gets good reports for being clear and goes 26 to 32MHz as if I'll ever need it
Just looking for a few 2950 mods now...not nessesarily power mods but I have heard of RX mods and such.

Thanks for the git back :-)

Roger Israel
...anywhere I downloaded a manual for it...it always came up as the 2950DX. I'll just search for a 2950 download.
Thanks~
I also learned they did a lot of work with Yeasu in the "early days" along with Sam Lewis having his hands in EARLY model SK radio...yep...some interesting reading today :-)
Above mentioned radio history has nearly nothing to do with the RCI SK radio I have.
Just wanted everyone out there to know I'm clear on that before I get flamed

Wolfgang Sommerkamp will Live on! (in my garage ...at least for a while :-))

Well....I've looked over the manual and checked all the mods. I then looked over the radio AND...ALL the mods have been done!
CRIPE! They left me nothing to do (that I can see) other than adding talkback......sheeeoooot...now I'm bored again!
Ok at least they set the power range up inconsistant to my needs. I'd rather have the low power DK Lower....yup...alls I can think of doing.
Oh...that and ordering up a mic adapter from Copper to use my 4 pin mics on it.
Yep...that'll do it for MY mods on this radio.
Have to say...its been a peach so far....except for the splash it picks up 2 channels away ...hey I feel a mod comming on!
Thanks for the input guys!
Starting to build a nice little comparison pile here lately:

GrantXL
Cobra148GTL
SBE Sidebander lll
Ranger AR3300
Galaxy Pluto
SommerkampTS2000DX (2950)
Magnum Delta Force

WANTED:
Chipswitch 2510!
Magnum S9......... AGAIN!

Others have come and GONE after weeding out the troublemakers
(can you say "Superstar" :-)J/K!)but these have found a home for quite a while.
If I could just STOP buying radios and start to buy the equipment I NEED I could move ahead!

Galaxy Pluto, now I wouldn't mind one of those myself. And I also liked the black faced Presidet Jackson. Man, if I could have a few of my old radios back. And I owned a Galaxy Saturn when they first came out, great base radio. I miss that as well. But if I get to sad, I just look at my AR3300, and smiles are bound to show up in seconds!!!!!
