At $379.99 this has to be the most expensive mic I have ever come across.Does it sound good enough to warrant a price like this?

i like the super side kick and the sadelta echomaster for a good mic. and if you run them on a good 10meter radio they will add base to your voice.

hey vern that mic is was out of all your radios leauge. it was designed to work with the yaesu 1000mp, a $4,000 radio. just look at its options.
i wouldnt even plug into your radio. it would need major re-wiring. it has a telephone type plug on it.

vernonott I ve never see one and at that price ill pass. My self i use several mikes other than stock ones and like the radio shack 21-1177 preamp mike as much as any. On my ft-820 i use a old shure i bought at least 30 years ago and it works as good as anything ive found.... i paided less than 20 bucks for it then and ive seen new ones for way less than 100 bucks. Im just not a got to have the hottest mike kinda guy .... although i did treat myself to a d-104 good by mike in the glass case. I told my wife it if she gets totaly fed up with my ham radio she can break the glass and toss it at me.

I think that is an obscene amount of money for a mic, but I guess if you buy the 4000 dollar radio to go with it, it doesn't seem as much....

I have the yaesu MD100 desk mic, and it matches up beatifully to my FT847.

At least the high dollar radios do come with a desk mike. Most base stations in my price range come with the same little cheap hand mike as thier mobiles.

one reason i did not buy a high end radio was the ft-840 had every thing i needed and more and even after i bought all the excessorys that the radio could ever use i still had enough left over to go get the alinco dx-70 which met all my needs for running 80-6 meters in my 1979 cady and would run in that car directly off the battery. I now had 100 watt base and moble for less money and unless you are obsessed with DSP and can aford a big enought antenna to even use DSP why pay for it. When i bought them i checked and for both the ft-840 and the alinco units there was a base mike that can be bought for them all you had to do is wire on the plug .... but why bother.

hydro ... agreed i borrowed one to try out a real fine mike on my ft 840. The man i got it from has just bought a new radio ... so i might be able to talk him out of it. I have several d-104's new that as soon as the dust clears will be wired to my AM 10 meter and 40 meter transmiters As for the heil maby when the new room is finshed ill set up my shack and go get one even if he will not sell.
