Revpo, You find more deals on killer radios than any guy I know!
I have heard a couple on air and they rock! SSB was great. Only thing I really don't care for is the led S-meter. On the other hand I rarely look at my meter so I could probably adjust.
If you do a Copper search you will find boat loads of info and mods.

Rev,
I dunno if we got shipped a dud batch of PC122's over here but everyone i know that has one says the same thing. They take a looong time to warm up and even then they will sometimes drift like the Mary Celeste. By the same token Uniden still sold a squillion of them.

Rev,
I'm only relaying what people that own them have told me and also listening to known PC122's. I was going to buy one to update from my AX144 but everyone i spoke to told me the same thing....keep the AX.

Regards,

The PC-122, AX-144, PRO-640E, Realistic TRC 453 and numerous others are all basically the same radio all share the same boards but are just installed in different cases. These radio's have been very popular down under but at the risk of putting my head on the block, the best Uniden cb radio in my opinion was the Uniden Grant and their best exports were the President lincoln/HR-2510/HR-2600.
The PC-122 did have some issues with drifting off frequency (by as much as 400hz) between cold and warm but a good tech can work wonders with them. I have a Realistic TRC-453 and a Uniden Grant but both radios have been tweaked by a real good tech but the Grant is definitely my favorite.

Muzz,
I'm hearing you there mate. But someting went very wrong in between the AX144 and PC122. But as you say a GOOD tech can and will fix the problem. But if you bought a brand new car that drifted that far out of tune i'm sure there would be more than one gasket blown. But then again finding a good tech.....on two occasions i have rang so called reputable company's that have been around for years asking about work to be done on my TS820, only to get the reply "What's a Kenwood?"....go figure.

I just bought a TRC-453 NIB off of an auction site. I can not wait to get it. I always wanted on as a kid so I am excited. I normaly would not have gone looking for one on auction sites but the lack of a decent new small chasis SSB radio forced my hand. I think that for $48 I made out like a bandit!! The factory warranty seal is still in place! I needed something small for my 2003 Camry. In 6 months or so I might be geting a truck so I would not need the small chasis. I just could not bring myself to mount a full size chasis on the dash!!! This will be small enough to open up a lot of mounting options.
