I am looking into getting a CB radio for when I start work(Truck Driver for which ever company I choose. Is the Cobra 25LTD or Uniden PC78Elite. I picked them because I liked the feature they offered the adjustable back lighting. Is there anything else I need to know such getting a mic for it etc? |

It will come with a stock mike. They are both good radios, I run a 25 myself in my pickup. The 78 will have a few more bells and whistles, it is very similar to the Cobra 29. The PC68 Elite is very similar to the 25, also. You cant go wrong with any of them, really. (This is cowboy4.0 from the other forum, btw) |

You will definately want to buy a Road King 56 (Turner RK56) or an Astatic 636L. I have both in the big truck, but I prefer the RK56. The reason you need to purchase a mic rather than using the stock mic is because the stock mic does not have a noise-cancelling feature which is vital in a semi-truck. Also, you will want to have a competent technician perform an alignment on it to get the most out of your radio. If you don't care about legality, you can also have a 1969 final installed and have the radio "peaked and tuned" for maximum performance. Be very careful who you use, the market is saturated with charletons who will be happy to butcher your radio for mucho dinero. Actually, since you live on Long Island, you may want to contact Patzerozero for a recommendation. He's good people and would steer you in the right direction. |

I would pick the uniden over any new Cobra. If you are considering a new purchase otherwise one of the pre 1994 Cobra's would be a good choice. Have a look at some of the post's posted on the later Cobra cb radios. Cobra reached a pinnacle with their cb radio's around the mid 90s and sadly their quality control has declined since the manufacture of the radio's was taken to China. Murray |

Thanks Guys, I think I am going to go with the Uniden. I won't be able to afford a good mic at first a basic set up will have to do. When I get my own truck(pick up) I will have to the top standards. Fireball thanks for the referal over to this site. |

Yep another one. For right now I am only going to have the CB in the cab of my work truck when I get it. I applied to work for a couple OTR companies. I got a response from Werner and Schneider. I called and talked to the girl at Werner and they seem like a good company. Next week I am going to call another company to make sure they got my application. But when I do make up my handle (probably something to do with horses)I'll let you guys know so we can chat, when I am on the Island. Where in riverhead do you live. My barn takes horses to a farm behind the home depot. |

Hank, you're a bit north of the Mason-Dixon line to be sportin' that rebel flag, eh? Also, I thought you were in Jersey, not LI. I must be getting old and senile. |

First...before getting my wrist smacked for not staying on topic I'd also recommend the Uniden although the 25 is not all that much different inside or otherwise. Either will tune up nice and get the job done. I also run the RK56 on my Magnum in my pickup. The other noise cancelling RK56 lookalike that copper sells is the SAME mic for almost half the money. Why then half the money? Because it doesn't say "TURNER" on it. Someone got smart and sourced the same case, element and marketed it. Its the same mic. As for my -20 I'm about 2 mi due east of the farm you speak of If your ever in the neighborhood shout for '905 on channel 22. We're reading the mail Good luck with the job search! Hank CEF559 |

Our CB in the truck is not functional, doesn't turn on. It's not my place to go spend the owner's money. I'll try to find out and post a few days before I go there if there are anymore show's there. |

To put it bluntly, these days Cb radios as they come out of the factory are basically built with a near enough is good enough attitude and you have to remember they are being built to a fairly tight budget. A good tech can do various mods to get more power and just plain tune the set for better tx and rx performance. |

Both will work fine!! I am partial to the Uniden but I have heard that they are all made in China now so who knows. The 78 used to have the exact same board as a Cobra 29 back when Uniden made the boards for Cobra. |

I ended up with the 29 NW LTD classic. The only thing is it doesn't have the weather channel on it but that is what news radio channels are for. I really like and am now on the air waves. Evan. Long Island,New York
