I just got this radio. WOW! Nice looking, and loads of options to try out. Almost everything is there, including the paperwork. But it doesn't have the power cord for the supply to plug into the wall. No biggy, I can get one anywhere. And no mic, once again no biggy, I'll just wire one up. It should give me something to play this weekend!!! Is anyone useing the radio at the moment? And if so, how do you like? And mods I should know about? |

Well i need to tune it up. It's off just a hair. And I would like to reset the meter. But I can't find any tune-up info. Just the power and freq mods. BTW- it had never been convrted. That was kinda cool! |

take off the top cover, & on the back of the display board (vertical board, behind face of radio) is a small black switch. use a long plastic tuning tool or pencil & flip it the other way & you'll have transmit from around 500Khz up to 29.999 mHz. this works on GX & GXII models. some late euro or japanese models require a diode to be removed....there is no switch. 8 pin mic....if i remember, the same as the 8 pin AR-radios. mine used a turner +2 or shure 526t with excellent results. typical HF rig on AM, needed the processor on & tons of amplification to sound like a CB, but it didn't really sound bad if adjusted properly. SSB was just fine. receiver was real good for its day, way a head of my 101e. really nothing else to be done with it after you get a mic on it that you like. i NEVER had a problem with mine bought in the late 80's. had it for quite a while before i sold or traded it for something i don't remember. swift move. replaced with an icom ic735 some years later-which i still have & use. |
