Well I might still get a Magnum 257 in November but I had to get the little Realistic!!! IT is NIB and still has the factory warranty seals in place. It was tested and functions fine. I am getting it off of Ebay. It has the box and the mounting hardware, bracket, mic etc... still in plastic!!This will fit my 2003 Camry nicely. I can bring my Lincoln inside the hose and try to hook it up as a base again.I can not wait to get it!!!I just won the aution and payed with paypal. I am hopeing he will send it out tomorrow.I always wanted one of these but went right from a small AM only TRC 435 right to a RCI 2950. It might be a while before I crack the cover open to open the clarifier. I am hopeing I will be able to get a 1-3 watt dead key and swing to 12-20 watts on AM. I would love it if it would get at least 20-24 watts on SSB.

Do these units mics come wired the same as 4 pin cobra and Uniden? I am asking becasue I am thinking about turning the modulation up to about 90% and running a D104M6B power mic with it. I do not have a scope though so I can not see my wave patern. I will be relaying on power and modulation leters. I have never worked like this and do not know if I am in the right ball park.I do not cut limiters and I like to have audio power. If anything I have sugested sounds way off please let me know. I know just enough to be dangerious.

If I should find that freq. stability is not stable enough after a 30 minute warm up what can be done to fix this? Is it a matter of replaceing some of the componets like the ceramic filter or key transitors etc????????

I got it for a great price too!!! It is costing me $48 total with shipping and handeling!!

If it is a Realistic it should have the 5 pin DIN plug. I wired a D104 to a Realistic a while back. Radio had plenty of modulation so I had to keep the gain real low or audio would sound bad. Just a real tedious solder job that needs patience!

IF it is a 5 pin din then I will have to swap it out to a 4pin socket and so that I can get a mic ont he road if it should ever fail. Truck stops are full of mikes prewired for 4 pin cobra. I am going to leave the limters in place and use a power mike to drive the audio to saturation point. It should sound real good like this?

instead of ripping out the mike jack I wonder if they make an adaptor plug for the 5 pin din to the four pin cobra style.....

John, Since that is an SSB radio I would get a alighnment done by a qaulified tech. You can go ahead and try out the power mic you want and see how it sounds on AM.The radio is going to have gobs of modulation on its own. SSb you may want to go noise canceling mic for the road. I have had a few Realistic model radios and in my opinion the best mics are the Realistic mics made for the radio. Realistic has a pretty neat noise canceling amplified mic that matches up really well to those radios. To each his own and I hope it all works well in your favor. my 2 cents

Yes there is a mic adapter din plug type to 4 pin Cobra Uniden style mics.
The same adapter that fits Realistic din plug also works on the older Sears Roadtalkers.

My problem is finding a good tech. So far the ones I have found are one step above me in terms of knoldge and experince wich is scary! Rember I only aprenticed for 1 year in a communication repair facility. I took a Popular radio from the 1980's in to get the clarifer opened and the "Tech." could not do it. He could not find the mod so that was that!!! So instead of looking at simalar chasis's by the same company and figureing it out I was told I was out of luck! I am not used to haveing to do the Technicians homework for them! I think they mostly just repair them and modify new in stock radio's for sale.

I am considering leaving the radio stock and useing a 2-4 pill amp to DX on SSB. I really do not talk on AM that much!

John I use a 5pin din to 4 pin cobra mic jack adaptor and it would certainly save some work in replacing the existing plug, might be worth spending some and getting a good tech to set it up properly for you. I don't know if Copper's sell the mic adaptors but they are readily available.

John I also have a TRC 453 which I recently modded the clarifier the mod can be found at a web site if you do a google search .I will look at mine and see how I did the mod and maybe be able to help you with it, the posted mod does not give much swing but there are supposed to ways around it.I will post it later .

I have found the mod for the clarifier. I have heard that it does not give much slide but anything is better then nothing. Any thing you can input is welcome. has anyone ever used those so called"super slide diodes"? I was also woundering about the "super slider knob"? So far the only thing not 100% on this radio is the clarifer pot has some wobble in it. I do not know if it is just lose or if the pot need replaceing.Everything works though and it is is in 98% NIB shape. It is also very small wich is exactly what I needed for this car. Have you tried the mic gain mod? I was woundering if it effects SSB sound quality in a negative way. If all it does is give more swing on AM i might try it as it is not very involved and really easy to do. If it is going to in anyway affect my SSB sound quality I will leave it alone. THe way I understand the mod their is a resistor that limits the mod to not more then 75% located on the back side of the mic jack. If you remove it you can exced 75%. I am thinking all should be good as long as the Modulation is set properly with VR5? If this mod totaly disables the AMC I do not want to do it. ANyone have a clue?
