Yes i know that this is an old radio but I just got it yesterday. As I see it it has a nice receiver with very smooth agc action, power about 20 watts pep ssb and dk 8 swings to 20 on am.This radio was previously modded but only covers 27.455 to 27.805 plus regular 40. The mod has only been partialy done and I will do that later, also the clarifier could use a bit more swing, currently about 4 1\2 kcs.A nice looking radio looks the same as the 142 with different board and a better chip (858). Great nb\anl really knocks out the noise but can cause distortion on some strong local signals.Audio reports with a turner + 3 are very good with no sign of flattopping.Rejection appears to be very good , almost as good as my TRC 451.Built in swr meter is also a plus also can be run on 13.8 vdc, great if the power goes out lol.As I said earlier I will be doing the mod for extra freqs and more swing on the clarifier.P.S. I picked it up for $90.00 Canadian very good deal and very good condx cosmeticaly Bob CEF451\PC451\CVC104 |

congrats on the new rig. getting more swing out of the clarifier in those radios is pretty involved as it uses a separate crystal and varactor diode for each mode. when inductance is added, centering all modes is next to impossible. it can be done, but i have never gone to the trouble. i think there is a way to get a 5kc drop with the PLL. not sure though. good luck, matt |
