Hey guys..maybe a stupid question but here it goes anyway. Can you use a small driver amp (approx 90 watts) on any amp? I have a skipper 300 that does 500 peak and a cadet 150 that does 170 peak. Or will this burn up your amp. I use a galaxy 44, 3 watts dead key swings...and a tr 696 ssb, dk 2 watts and swings....just got my gear up and running good and had a few folks tell me that maybe i should look into this way of hooking up and add some fire to the wire. Thanks!!

No you can not use 90 watts to drive just any amp. it must be a high drive amp.

The only stupid questions are the ones that go not asked!
It really takes very little input to drive an amp depending on the transistors or tubes being used.
For instance your Skipper and the 20 watts your hitting it with. Your getting 500 watts and not gonna get any more than that no matter how hard you drive it. The tubes are rated for only so much output. You'll only make excessive heat and lessen tube life! Not to mention the audio headaches.
A driver amp is idea for a BIG amp. Good example is the combo setup of a Texas Star V-mod driving a Texas Star Sweet 16.
The average cb ( Cobra 29) is no good to drive a Sweet 16 alone. You need the V-Mod between the two.
It can also begin to get complicated.
Take your Galaxy DX-44.....much to big of a radio to drive a V-Mod and still to small to drive a Sweet 16. Of course it has been done but technically it's not idea.
Ever wonder why so many of the key down guys always use standard cb radios and not exports? This is why.
Guess you could say "less is more" when it comes to drivers.
Let'em cruise!

Thanks Hotwire, like i said earlier i did'nt know and figured i'd ask the question. I had someone bring that up to me and was wondering why i was'nt running that small one for a driver. I don't need all the power...just got the box for a good price! Who knows, maybe one day get into Ham where power is legal except 11 meter! Glad i joined this forum though..i've gotten alot of good info from it. Again thanks.
