The Copper ad in one place says "Noise Blanker Type: All mode, seven stage high gain" and in another says "High Gain 5 Element Noise Blanker and Automatic Noise Limiter (ANL)" 1) What does 7 stage 5 element mean? 2) Was this also in the original S9 or is it a new feature? |

I just got off the phone with Sam Lewis and here is his description of the High Gain 5 Element Noise Blanker and Automatic Noise Limiter (ANL) It is a series of capacitors and coils both fixed and variable for maximum performance and is included on all Magnum models. Hope this help's, Lon ~ Tech808 ~ N9CEF CEF#808 ~ CEF HAM#33 ~ CVC#002 10-10 #61493 ~ 10-10 VP#2688 Tech808@copperelectronics.com

Caledonia, Sorry but no it is not hype since no other manufacturer advertises or installs a 5 stage noise blanker in any mobile radio's that I know of. So I guess it is just another Magnum Exclusive Feature. Lon ~ Tech808 ~ N9CEF CEF#808 ~ CEF HAM#33 ~ CVC#002 10-10 #61493 ~ 10-10 VP#2688 Tech808@copperelectronics.com

Well it seems like Sam's ears were burning when people complained about excessive noise in a mobile application....HATS OFF! Its one of the only reasons I sold mine as I didn't need another base rig. Hank~CEF559 Long Island NY

So has anyone tested one of these 80 watt wonders yet? I'm curious to see how well it performs. Does it actually do 80 watts or what? |

Has anyone heard any reports or reviews on the new Magnum S-980? Good, bad, better than the S-9? |

My advice is to look under reviews and if there is nothing there, then there is a good chance that one has not been done. Look before you leap!!!! HARVE UNIT199 CEF210 CVC18 KB0YVK

I hope they are offering an update to their noise blanker cause the one on my S9 is totally useless. Unless you just to flip useless switches. |

I have to add that I use my S9 as a Base and the NB works great for cutting out electrical interference from the home appliances (dishwasher, washing machine, etc.). I don't know how well it works in a mobile. Just my experience thus far. If the added 80 watts of the S-980 are in fact double the 40+ of the S9, watch out! Nice, clean power in that box. Great radios for the $ and awesome receive (main reason I made S9 my base). Can really pick up those dinky weeds... |

Good question...my S9 does the advertised 45 or so, but when I goose the power supply to 15 volts, it jumps another 10. And the Top Gun Mod. adds a little too, even though I read it's not supposed to help with SSB. I'm curious what the 980 puts out real-life. |

Flush, The rms would be a good one to get in contact with Sam Lewis about or someone who owns an S-9 and a Bird watt meter. Mine will hit the 50 pep mark on my PDC600 at 13.8 volts. Canal digger, Not a good idea to run your S-9 over 13.8 volts. I know that sometimes in the mobile you have to give or take a little but if you can keep it within a half volt from 13.8 the radio will be safer. Some amps OK...radios not OK!
