I have been considering getting a Northpoint CBS-1000 base radio.

Could any of you offer some information on this base.?

Any info at all would be appriciated! Good or bad.

Most important to me is the recieve on this radio AM and SSB both.

Is the "S" meter stingy?

How well does it respond to a "tune up"?

Many thanks!

For the money, I can't think of a better new base station, but how many base stations can you buy new for $150?

The receiver is a bit lacking in adjacent channel rejection. It seems fairly sensitive. There isn't too much white noise out of the box. I like the look of the meters. It scans in a unique fashion for CBs. I think the S meter is generous as it is in most CBs. I haven't tried to get any more than stock power out of the radio because I don't care to, but I understand that these radios don't particularly like to be tuned for too much power or overmodulation.

I bought a Northpoint CBS-1000 back in the winter and I did the tune-up myself. I run a Gizmotchy 3 element beam thats around 45 feet on my tower. I run barefoot on LSB- channel 38 and have talked skip all over. I go by 429-buckeye state, so if you hear me out there, then you can decide if you want 1 of these radios or not. Thats my 2 cents worth, 73's Hilljack _357.
