In pictures this radio looks very nice. Question is how does it really look? Is there anything about this radio that is cheesy, like the knobs, the meter, the mic, the buttons, or the finish?
How did it work for you, and did you get an extra tune, alignment, or mod? |

Marconi, I have a 2547 and it has been tuned and mods done and I have no complaints at all. Mine works great and there are a lot of mods you can do that in my opinion, makes this a keeper.

The Galaxy 2547 is excellent in appearance .
Receive and transmit are excellent also.
The only problem with the Galaxy 2547 is frequency drift on sideband.When first turned on it takes about 30 minutes get on frequency and after that it appears fine.
It is still my #1 choice in CB base station radios because of its neat look and extra features. |

I really like my DX2547, Don't let the word "Compact" fool you, This is definately A Man sized radio.
The knobs are large.
Im getting a swing to 14+ watts on AM (Thanks Copper techies)
This radio has just the right amount of bells and whistles for me.
The option to use DC power is nice,And the GNF "Galixy Noise Filter" really works well with the "Tone" knob.
This radio sounds like I have a very expensive after-market speaker connected to it.
The most noticeable thing about this radio is the dimensions.
The rig is deeper than it is wide.
This means that the radio reaches out to you instead of you reaching out to it.
I have lots of gear on my desk and it is much easier to adjust this radio than the others.
There's only 3 things I think could be done better.
#1 I had to use a silver Sharpie pen to draw lines on the knobs to see were they are adjusted better.
#2 The little fold down feet on the bottom look a little wimpy for this rig. They haven't given me any trouble ,But A big radio usually gets things set on it and these little feet just seem small.
#3 All the knobs are round except the on/off push button. Its been my experience that a knob lasts longer than a push button.
Other than those things this rig gets great reports from locals and the next state over on am and upper/lower ssb as well
Keep in mind that this is a strictly CB radio. So if you want to hot-rod it you will have to be adding mini toggles or something.There is no A.B.C.D.E.F. switch. So far this is the best CB only radio I have owned. |

I have noticed recently that Galaxy has changed the final in the transmitter of this radio.
The service manuel now calls for higher power on AM and SSB when doing transmitter alignment.
I have had my Galaxy 2547 for about two years and no problems and can`t imagine selling it. |

OOPS, I said that I was getting a swing to 14 watts. I meant to say I'm dead keying at full "RF-POWER" from about 14 (My trusty Dosy is kinda hard to read at low double digits, Could be more or less on both readings)to a swing of up to 20+ watts, (Thanks Copper Techies) |

I would like to add an adition to my previous post about the Galaxy 2547.
This is in regards to the warranty.
I left my rig pluged in during a lighning storm and it took a power surge that hurt the radio pretty bad.
The locals could here me ,but the out of towners could not.
I went to the Galaxy home page and clicked on the warrenty icon.
Here's how it works.
You explaine the problem in an e mail.
It doesent matter if you are the original owner or the 100th.
It also dosent matter if the radio has been "tweaked" (within reason of course).
In your e mail you type in the serial # on the back of the rig (anything with the word galaxy is eccepted).
After just a few short days you get a confirmation e mail with further instructions.
Send them your disabled rig at your cost(mine went to Ca,).
about 2 weeks later they send your radio as good as new back at there cost.
I have never seen such a simple and custemer friendly warrenty sevice anywere.
I give them an A PLUS...... |

I noticed the radio does get warm after long usage, and the frequency counter does for example go from 27115 to 27.114.6 after a half hour or so of talk, but no one says it has gotten off frequency, anyone else notice this

I have had two of these radios an have liked both of them, once I setup the radio in the room where it was going to be used and did the clarifier mod to it its great. these radios hear the weak stations very well with a good signal to noise ratio, I can hear stations 20 to 30 air miles away very clear with little to no background noise from my Antron 99 up about 55' thats even with the street light on that has some transformer noise it produces on CH 19 at night on AM. A GREAT BASE CB radio, I also have a Cobra 2000GTL which are known for there great receives and transmits and my little Galaxy2547 hears the weak one clearer to my ear than the Cobra 2000GTL but would still give the 2000 the edge on transmit for loudness, both are four watts. I also have a ICOM 756 PRO3 an have compaired it to the two CB base stations and both radios will more than hold there own on AM. On SSB the ICOM has the edge, but it should at 10 times the price...................Oldtimer |
