Anybody try packet radio through the soundcard?
i put together a homebrew box the other day and all I get is "sandscript" tried a direct connection and still got the same jumble. tried different settings, programs etc. no such luck....

Yep sure have and it worked great.. What program and what design interface are you using??
What frequency are you listening for packet on?? What parameters have you set??
In short need tons more information if any attempt to help you is to work..

I run a SOUNDLINK box with good results on psk-31.
The only problem is a conflict with other programs on the computer not the soundcard fault.

Using digipan with a direct connection to the soundcard from the dataport on a ft-897d. think it was 144.390. dataport has fixed audio level

144.39 is the APRS national frequency not a general Packet radio frequency. Under the covers they use the same root spec, but APRS uses only the Unnumber Information (UI) frames as opposed to the full capabilities of the AX.25 spec. Still very useful though. For true packet via soundcard, I would suggest that you take a look at the soundcard packet software interface AGWPE Pro. It can be used as an interface for either APRS programs like WinAPRS or a number of packet terminal or specialty programs (like NTS messaging systems).

For clarity, my prior post relates to Packet not PSK31 as well.
One other note about the use of soundcards rather than true TNCs, depending on the specific mode (packet, psk, pactor, etc), the calibration of the frequency response of the specific soundcard may be an issue. Some programs I have seen have a calibration capability so that you can fine tune the response and ensure that the program hears what it is looking for. This is usually not necessary for TNCs that use "modem" chips like the mx614. The up side to using the soundcard is that there is no pre-concieved notion about what mode you can use. It is all baked into the software that you use for the mode. But that is straying off topic to other HF digital modes.
