I drive a truck for a living. At times my job requires me to change trucks. I'm trying to come up with a way to temporarily mount an antenna on whatever truck I happen to be driving that day. Our trucks are fiberglass, so a mag mount antenna is out of the question. The best I can do is mount something on the mirror, The problem is... every time I change trucks, I would have to re-tune the antenna.

What can I do?

generally most good antennas like the wilson 5000
trucker once thier tuned in thier good to go
even if ya change trucks i think youll find
very little retuning.something ya should be
more concerned about is ya said the trucks are
fiberglass.that usually creates lots of swr
problerms.especially if doors are fiberglass
cause thats what the mirriors are attached to.
generally its because of lack of ground fiberglass doors have.if so look thru coopers
see if they have what they call a [no ground]
antenna for mobiles this will help if doors are fiberglass.if thier true sheet metal get the wilson

Hey there Blackbeard, If you are using just a standard cb radio NO AMPLIFIER I would go with something like the visegrip or preferably what I have seen at the truck stops. It is a mount made to clamp on a mirror bracket and has a quick release lever. I would use an antenna of small size and light weight that is tuneable. With a fiber glass body you would probably never get a perfect swr but you might get it somewhere acceptable. If all your wanting is communication from truck to truck say like a 5 mile radius then an swr of 2.5 or even 3.0 would work, will not hurt the radio, and nobody on the recieving end could tell the difference. As for the Francis, it is a great antenna but it is pretuned and relies on proper installation and an optimum mounting location on the vehicle. You would have to settle for whatever efficiency it gives you.73
KEEP IT REAL!
