Is this a good amp or bad? How easy is it to get tubes? How much power output should I expect for power output? I met a guy on the radio that is selling one, what should I expect to pay?

The Palomar 300A was/is a very good amplifier if it is in 100% good working condition with new tubes.

Tubes are easy to get but they are not cheap ie: QTY #6 ~ 6KD6 @ $42.00 each or = $252.00

You want to keep your "INPUT" power from the radio to the amp between 1 and 10 watts.

Remember any USED Radio Equipment is only worth what YOU are willing to pay for it and older tube amps can be very costly to repair if needed.

For more information just do a search here in the Copper Forum for: Palomar 300a

I had one of those amps and are good IF they are in good condition. No leaky caps, etc.
Fan is kinda noisy and can be annoying.
The tubes do cost big bucks.
They can cost big bucks to repair to if you can get someone to work on them because of legality issues.
I sold mine for 375.00.

I've ran a 300a for around 13 years now mines been a really good amp but as lon and crackshot said the tubes can get costly.i drive the low side of mine with a black cat 200 and i see about 800 watts out of it on a dosy meter.my tubes might be a little weak they haven't been changed in a long time.
