Well we had to get rid of my minivan (130,000+ and a bad tranny) Now we have 01 Lincoln town car. Does any one have any idea on how to run power for my ranger 3500? I am also wanting to get a trunk mount ant. I have a Wilson 1000 but it has been trimmed / tuned and I need the rubber bottom and new allen screws (I know I can get them). However I am kinda liking the willson fiberglass ant,a white one so it matches the car. I cant seem to find a power rating for them and I am wondering what base to use.

As for mounting the radio I will make a trip to the local hardware store and get some wood, find a stain to match the wood on the inside of the car and make my owne. I had come up with a nice one for my van maybe I can for the car.

Knight_watch,

Power Rating for the WILSON Silverload Fiberglass Antenna's are:

Silverload ~ 2' = 400W
Silverload ~ 3' = 750W
Silverload ~ 4'/5'/6' = 1000W

Flexible 4' = 200W

You may also want to consider the ANTTRON A-1700 Antenna which is broadbanded and Rated at: 2000 Watts.

As for running the Power wires direct to the battery peel the carpet and backing back on the passenger side floor up under the dash and then get underneath the car and drill a hole below the air conditioner thru the firewall and run your wires thru to the radio and wrap tape or place heat shrink tubing around the wires going thru the hole in the firewall to prevent any possibility of the wires shorting out.

i had a wilson silverload it was ok .i like the
anttron 1700 lon mentiomned MUCH better

I will look into the 1700 Antron and hope to have some pics to post! some day.

808, I'll have to get the drill out when the wife's at work. hehe. She "let" me pick because she got to pick the last car we got (04 buick Rendezvou ?) and she likes the Licoln as much as I do. I can just hear her "your gonna WHAT!" haha

NOTE also look at the z-180 a little more money
but i love this antenna.first mobile antenna i had i didnt need adjusting for swr after installing it

Knightwatch, Often many times if you inspect the firewall usually near the parking brake cable your can find a hole already there with a rubber plug. If your careful you can even go in the same spot as the parking brake cable. Many times you can get pairs of 4 gauge wire to fit no problems. I ran 2 x 6 gauge supply lines myself with a distubution block for all my high power accesories.

i have a 2000 lincoln town car with a 2950 mounted. for the radio i used a hump mount that uses the little teeth that bite the carpet, for the antenna i use a wilson 1000 with bonding from the trunk lid to under the rear inside trunk below the window. with wiring the radio i snaked the power leads thru the rubber gromet that has the harnes for the heat control wires on the passenger side near the floor hump then went straight to the battery with the hot & ground. also i ran a braided 1/2" ground strap at 6 points from the body to the frame as well as 1/2" straps from the doors to the body. swrs are 1.1 from 26.915 thru 27.225 then they climb a bit from 27.225 thru 27.605 to about 1.3. during the past summer dx season i talked all over the US.& South America on SSB just with the 35 watts from the radio. also i talk just about daily on lsb 27.5150 down into the Carribian seems like about sunset here in maryland the guys from the carribian always come booming in when dx is not even comming from any where else. but i gotta tell you that wilson 1000 sure supprised me totaly. going to mount a messenger 250 amp and see what i can do. good luck on your install. also i just used fine strand #10 wire for the power leads with an inline fuse holder and it's been pleanty for my RCI 2950.

HotWire, I haven't had a really good look under the hood outside of the basic used car look see. I would like to avoid drilling at all cost. I would like to get a new setup to match the new car but that won't be happening any time soon, so I am told hehehe.

RadioReddz, Sounds like you got a good setup. Thanks for all the info! I did not really want to use the Wilson 1000 I have and am leaning toward a fiberglass wilson or the antron 1700.
