Has anyone used a Icom 706 to a Texas Star amp/DX1600? If so was there any problems with oscillation or problems with amp having modulation? Radio dk25/100 but amp goes to 800w with little modulation drawing 75 amps and droping with modulation? SWR is 1.2 with radio showing a increase to 1.3 with amp on. Tried to make a choke as well as true 1/2 wave lenght of coax with no change. SSB is perfect as this problem is only on am.
BTW radio has a great sound on it's own. But would like that added power for the 11m;)

are you saying that in AM mode, watts goes DOWN from 800 with modulation? if yes-how far? what is dx1600 carrier at before modulation? what is SSB PEP? you have NO problem with swr on AM, you may need to play with radio carrier & mic gain to get things right....newer, low-level modulation hf rigs can be tricky on AM.

On SSB it's perfect. On am it's weird? It may also be my limited charging system. Anyway radio is way to nice for me to have in the truck. Its going to go in the house for now. Going to look for a good deal on a 2510/Lincoln or a S-9. Oh yea worked a outer island the first time I hooked up the Icom. Reports were very good also(no amp)

Some ham rigs use a funky scheme for AM since it is hardly used at all any more. They will use a single sideband with a carrier, not the double sidebanded carrier that is true AM. I had a similair problem with an ALinco DX-70. But I cannot say for sure. But the modern day all mode all band ham rigs are not optimized for use on AM. Sorry.
