I was all set to recieve my Magnum 257, but it seems like nobody can get them in soon enough and the one I had ordered was held up at customs.

Because I will be re-deploying to Iraq soon I need to get my new radio in asap and install it so I have something to look forward to when I get home.... So now that I can't have a Small radio to run an amp I mine as well get a big radio w/ a built in amp.

I just wanted to hear your opinions, you guys really know your stuff and I only buy radios and amps that are recommended on here first.

Heres my options:

1. Connex 4300hp-300 (i love the huge power but it has no toys or side band plus its just plain looking)

2)Galaxy 98VHP (also has huge power, not as much as the connex, but has ssb and all the toys you want)

3. Galaxy 48T (has two 2290 pills like all the other T series but is alot cheaper because it has no toys or ssb.

So does anyone have any opinions about the build quailty or perfromance of any of these radios ? I really use AM 95% of the time and toys aren't that important to me, but if I have to buy a radio with all that stuff to get the Watts than thats ok with me.

I want something that swings atleast real 100+ Watts on AM.

Thanks Guys

If I had my choice I would go with the Connex hands down. I just love that Connex audio. I'm not a big Galaxy fan. Build quality in Connex is excellent.
I really don't care for radios with internal amps because perfect installation is critical and if one ever needed repair work depending on what the issue is I'm not sure if the cost would be worth the fix.
I will only operate external amps. I'm a big fan of the dual final radio 4 pill amp combo, preferably 2879's!
If you can't obtain a Mag 257 and want SSB and around the same power output as the 257 why not grab a Magnum S-9 or an RCI 2950 or even a Superstar 158?
Well if you do go with one of the 3 radios your looking at you can get a humongous external amp.
KEEP IT REAL!

If a person does not crank the radios with internal amps up too far, they will last just as long as an external amp. I have a first generation RCI 2970 and I have not had any problems with it.
