i have a galaxy 2517 the radio is a powerhouse on the meter it will do close to the same watts as my S6. but the problem is the audio every one says that my cobra 2000 witchdoes 20 watts and my cobra 29 witch does 28 watts sound way better that the 2517 witch is pushing 55 watts on my meter . i allready know watts are not everything its your audio that counts . they tell me my galaxy is reall tinny sounded no matter how i set my mike gain , they say my cobras are deep punchy audio . i would love to use the 2517 because it drives my tubes and other boxes so good. the radio has the Q39 (TR39) modulation limiter removed . the power amp The stock device is a 2SB754, which is a 60-watt, 7A power amp device changed to the 100 watt 12 amp counter part. The stock AF Amplifier is the 2SA473 (Q55). Replacing this with the 2SA1012-0 or the ECG153 will improve the clarity and volume of the modulation. and the super swing mod- R264 with the 1N4001 diode in series with the resistor this is all thats been done to it i hope i didnt forget anything . i have a local that lives 10 miles from me and his 2517 has booming audio . i guess i sound clear just tinny i know one of you guys will know what i mean. ive tried many mikes but use stock hand mike the most . thanks for any tips CEF# 961 Local Handle CopenHagen Getting down like charlie brown

Have a qualified tech remove that swing mod and then align the radio with the proper test equipment, including the PLL and the RX parts of the alignment steps that most shops skip! Also, check that there isn't a problem with the microphone. No way that radio should sound tinny if it is set up properly. |

ok i got my audio to sound better by finding the right mike it likes (stock connex mike), and been talking on it for the last 3 weeks and was doing great but last night every body i talked to say my audio would fade in and out to the point they couldnt here me, they said it wasnt cutting off, but just like i was holding the mike close and then a full arms lenth away as i was talking , hope someone has an idea because im stumped. i was watching the meter and seen no difference in wattage or swr when they said it started doing it . thanks for any help . yes i have used my rk 56 and my astatic 636l both improved the way my audio sounded but now got to figure out why my audio is getting weeker when i talk on it . im thinking maybe the AF Amplifier is messing up or maybe the power amp device is messing up both had been upgraded for louder audio when i got the base but i dont know how to check it i may need to repost this new question as a new topic because some people with more knowlege than i have may not be as inthused to read this post with the tinny topic. ill just have to wait and see. thanks all.
