it was working fine then the next time i keyed it down the lights went dim on key down.i hooked a volt meter to it and it shows 12.85 and when i key it it drops tp 7.25.everything looks great no discolor on anything, it all looks new.anyone? |

it is hard o beleive that out of all the 2990 radios nobody know or has a clue. |

Jyd,
From what little information you are giving I could only "GUESS" the 2990 power supply is dying.
The 2990 has been discontinued for quite some time now with NO support from ranger for parts and without checking everything in the radio to determine/find the problem you could be hunting forever to try and find / fix the problem.
You may need to find a good Tech in your area to go trough the radio to determine what the actual problem is.

does the 2990 have a dc switch/plug on the back?
try a external power supply on it.

Sorry but No.
It has a Factory/Ranger installed AC 3 prong/standard 110 Volt Power Cord connected directly to the radio.

found my post almost a week after I sent under Bluebirds post for help on a 2547. I did not post it there to begin with. Plus it took several days to show up in the wrong place. I havent found the other one yet. Sorry JYD for the delay. I think the forum masters may be volunteers and it takes them time to post everyones comments it seems.
That power supply is a trouble maker and it could be several cheap things to fix but in the end it will die most likely. Just go with a 25 amp power supply and wire in through the back and set it next to the radio. Trying to get it inside and keep it cool might be an issue. I would still get the fan kit for the heatsink.

i think i found the problem,the 2 regulators on the back of the heat sink. well i removed the transformer and caps to the side.i took out those and pluged it back in and rechecked voltage,and i found that the input side wothout the regulator showed 24 or 25 volts so if my voltage is that good before it enters the regulator and very little out the otherside with them in 12 volts and 6 volts when keyed up and the amp is off.so i ordered bigger 2n3771 40 volt 30 amp.maybe this will fix it |

it is fixed,or it was.a small regulator went out,but i did talk on it for a while first.the new transisters on the back of the radio did the trick.until smoke,i will upgrade those to.and turn the radio down to about 120watts.and i have a good power supply for back up,and alot of 2995dx parts |
