My radio is a rci 2980, on the 12v side i can lower my swing down to 30w..my question is can i run a mod v out of it? Somewhere i heard or read tht the mod v should only have about 20w run into it for its potential. Wanting to use this as a driver box. Thanks

no, the single 2290 in the mod v doesn't require much more then 2 key/10 PEP to reach max 20 key/80 PEP. the 2980 up all the way will fry the v. it's also an 'AM only' amp, not that it won't work on SSB. what will the 2980 dead key max, and what does it dead key when it swings 30? you get the 'swing' # using a PEP meter? what amp do you want the driver box to drive-make & model, and/or transistors?
