Between the Galaxy DX2517 and the Ranger 2980WX, both peaked, tuned, aligned with 11 meter conversion.

Everyone seems to usually recommend Ranger over Galaxy though they are both made by the same company. I'd be wondering myself particularly about the Galaxy DX2517 as I just got one a few weeks ago. Haven't used it yet, and am aware of the drifting problem with SOME Galaxy models----is the DX2517 another one particularly known for that drifting problem ? Would the frequency shifting show up on a frequency counter having that sixth didgit ?

All radios drift to a certain extent before they reach operating temerature especially on SSB. I have never owned a Galaxy of any breed so i can only offer what i have read on several sites is they seem to drift more than the norm. By the same token i have owned other Brands that drift like the Mary Celeste. Super Cheetah Mk3 comes to mind and a PC-122 i had years ago that would be on a different frequency each transmission. That thing would sound like a chipmunk one over then Homer Simpson with flat batteries the next....weird. Took it back under warranty, got a replacement that did the same so got a refund. Others i have heard sound great so i guess there are lemons everywhere. Enough of my waffling....lol. Oh i own a 2970 that to me is the bees knees so i am probably biased there. Good DXing with whichever you decide on.
