What are some of the pros and cons of the Galaxy DX2517 after the 11 meter conversion? Are these radios worth the money?

No 10 meter voice? Strange that I've heard one on 10 meter before, must of been a miracle....

I had my 2517 re-crystalled and re-aligned for 26.965-29.665 coverage, and it definitely works in all phone modes on 10 meters.

Now it won't do repeater offsets or PL tones, but it does do FM as well as AM and SSB.

OK .....

I don't know how you would " RECRYSTAL " that radio but i'll take your word.

As for 10 meter FM ..... 99% of repeaters use tone and -100 khz offset. Standard repeater pairs are .......

29.620, 29.640, 29.660 and 29.680 mhz all with -100 khz offset.

So it's only good on 29.600 simplex heck I've worked the world on 29.600 .......

See you on 10 ......

out of the box, the 2517 covers 28.765-29.205. modded, it goes below cb channel 1, but not up to 29.205 after the mod. to cover all of 10 meters, you need to replace the mixer crystal, but you'll lose part(all?) of cb. xtal can be gotten from galaxy.

You don't lose any of the CB band. What you do do is replace the 14.010mhz mixer crystal with a 15.360mhz crystal, this gives 26.965-29.665. 26.965 is channel 1 CB.

A complete alignment is required after the crystal swap to get good RX performance on 10 meters.

I am on 28.400 most of the time when I'm in the shack, maybe you'll hear my Galaxy on the air, and you'll say "Wow, that Galaxy sounds just like a Yaesu." Funny how a radio that is illegal to market in the US is a very nice legal 10 meter radio in my hands, being as I am a licensed ham.

caledonia is right. it's a 6 band radio, 45 channels per band equals 2.7 mhz, added to 26.965 equals 29.665. . too bad these radios didn't switch mixer xtals to get 12-10 meter cover age on them all.....

After Mod the 2517 only goes to 28.305(CW NO VOICE). And before Mod it does what Patzerozero said. You must change the 14.010mhz mixer crystal with a 15.360mhz crystal, this gives 26.965-29.665. 26.965 is channel 1 CB. And do A complete alignment is required after the crystal swap to get good RX performance on 10 meters. So OUT OF THE BOX IT WILL NOT DO 10 METERS, WITHOUT A LOT OF WORK. So it's really just a EXPORT CB. Not 10 meter. With these fact wouldn't you say it's not a 10 meter radio. Bruce it has a CW jack.

So after the conversion, would this radio perform fine on the 11 meter CB bands?

I've only used it once so far but mine worked absolutely fine on 11-M as that was what the prior owned had set it up for. It's back in the box until I get this radio-room finished.
