Ok here is the deal. I didn't quite follow the instructions for modding my 510 XL for better output. This thing was only pushing about 1-2 watts from the factory(why do they tune these down so far below legal limit?), and the instructions I found said to replace the 2.7ohm resistor sitting in front of the 15 ohm final bias resistor with a .47ohm, then retuning coils. Ok great, but Id on't have a .47 nor can I find any anywhere. Well I was looking around here and there, and noticed that most radio mods specify replacing the final with a sc1969 Transistor. I found the final in my Uniden Pro 510XL, which is a C2166, and swapped in a C1969 which I pulled out of a Cobra 148GTL that was dead. It was not hooked up and the PCB got broke lets just leave it at that. Well I turned on the radio after that, and it fired up, I could hear some static, but within 2 seconds smoke started pouring out the back. So I turned it off and unplugged power. Ok, so then I put the stock final back in, and it smoked worse. So I looked at the component side of the PCB, to see where the smoke was coming from. D7 Dioade was frying bad, and the transformer right next to it was heating up real hot. So I kicked it back off, brought it inside, tested the transformer(still good), and swapped out the D7 Diode. Hooked it back up, and everything works fine now. Shy didn't the SC1969 work? Is there a way to make it work? Perhaps a different way to mod this radio since I can't locate a .47 Ohm resister, except for a 2 inch long 5 watt that is WAY too huge to put in this radio? Maybe jumper that resistor?

Jump the resistor (2.7ohm) with a piece of wire...do it all the time...works great

this may sound too simple to be possible, but could you combine a few resistors together to achieve the desired resistance? (2x 2.7ohm in parallel = 1.35ohm)
