I have just gotten an unknown base tube-amplfier that appears to be in excellent condition. It doesn't have any markings and may be homemade though it looks extremely well-built. The only reason I say that is it's 3 switches on the front appear to be "generic" on/of toggle-switches. It looks professionally built though or someone knew what they were doing building it.
It has a very large transformer. It looks like it has (six) Westinghouse 12DQ6B tubes, being driven by (two) RCA OA2 tubes. I found virtually nothing on the RCA tubes online and very little on the Westinghouse tubes.
If it is in good working condition would anyone venture to say what this amplifier might be capable of for wattage output? |

Foxhunter, when we have little to go by pictures are worth a 1000 words, try posting pictures in the members photo area of the forum and the rest of us members will be able to help you much better.

Tried to post pic's that same night. I aet up the camera, installed the software and took photos. After trying to post an entire gallery of pic's I found out that they were rejected because the resolution was too high.
Now I have my PC "in the shop" due to lighting-related problem and can't do much online. I just stopped to quickly use someone else's PC but will be trying to ge some pic's on the "Members Photos" section sometime soon. |

I think the RCA 0A2 tubes are regulator tubes, not driver tubes ---- probably been close to 30 yrs since I've worked on one tho *__* |

Bruce and Two W are correct those are regulators and they look very cool like a blueish purple color when on.They were very popular many years ago in the older all tube rigs and very tough.
Ahh the days of the smell of hot tubes and Bakelite brings back memories, have to get my old Johnson Viking Pacemaker going again lol

Thanks again to you all for trying to help out with the unknown amplifier. I can't post pic's here at this time because I can't get the resolution size down enough for the Copper Forum to accept.
So those aren't driver-tubes but regulator tubes. That's one step closer to having an idea what this amplifier might do for signal amplification/power output.
The six Westinghouse 12DQ6B tubes it would seem will not produce a whole lot of output, but I really do like the way the amplifier is constructed. It is very clean and neatly made.
I will be returning my digital camera for a new & different one as it has already "quit" on me for some unknown reason (cheap!) and I'll invest in a better quality camera.
Sorry to those who I may've irritated (yet wanted to help me) by not being able to post pic's. I fully intended to and bought a camera specifically for that reason. But after over 100+ pic's at various/all resolutions, the best I could do was e-mail them to one of our members.
I can see tube-equipment will be in my blood for some time as I really like vintage and/or odd make & model radio equipment.

Thanks for the attempted help despite the description. I've been EXTREMELY busy lately trying to get a large garage project completed before winter (still at it) as well as looking at a major involvement in the frame section on a sportscar I own. Seems like I'll never be done and have had no time to post anything anywhere.
I spotted a picture online late one night and the unknown amplifier is an:
ELKINS 6-Tube amplfiier
I couldn't find anything yet about them aside from the lone photo. |

Foxhunter,Is this thing built like a black lunch box with one control knob on the far rignt and the 3 switches on the far left? if so could you post a link to where you found a picture of it.

I tried to respond but didn't make it past the censors. That is the Elkin 6 though pictured above. I noticed that the other Elkin's look almost identical just larger. I've found little online about them. Can anyone post any links for information? |

Made buy ESC corp. in Elken N.C.
designed by Ray Phelps (not sure of the spelling) There not power houses but they are known for their audio. Mostly seen in the southeast although I bought one out of Washington state on eBay. Ray made a really good chose for the tubes. The older ones have 1625 a military transmitter tube you can still buy NOS for about $4.00 each. The newer ones have 12dq6b or 6dq6b a sweep tube you can still buy for $12.00 You run one more like a modulator. A 6 tube should key around 50 watts and swing 300 or more depending on how wild your meter is. They are a favorite around here a nice one can bring a lot of money. |
