I run the radio as a base.It was turned on,on 27.115,everything was fine.I left the bench for an hour or so and when I came back it was 24.680.It had`nt been changed,but that`s where it was.The channel knob won`t change frequency,nor will the band switch,High/Low Band,10k switch,or clarifier.Also it will not key up.No storms in the area,power surges or anything else that I noticed out of the ordinary.I opened the radio up and everything seems to be plugged in OK.Anyone have any ideas?

I have an 88, I run it in my mobile. The freq counter started bugging out, I went in and re-soldered cold joints replaced parts, re-soldered connections ..everything. It worked perfect for a week, then the counter started to drift again. It wont stay stable on SSB anymore as it can drift 5kc's from 40-70 degrees in temperature. I pushed the band switch before I installed it, and a diode on the freq board blew. I did a complete alignment, replace bad parts, re-soldered cold joints and it works great on am. Oh it also puts a birdie on channel 14 at an s5. I usually just listen to truckers on my drive to work so its ok.
I'd start looking for cold solder connections, I found several, my 88 is 15 years old, and has a lot of miles on it. Its easy to get cracks on traces after being exposed to extreme temps, vibration, humidity etc. Good luck. |

I`ll check the solder joints,mine is at least 15yrs. old,and it did live in a truck with my Dad for several years.

They are some great radios on AM. Drift alittle on SSB but I have radios better suited for sideband anyway.I love mine |
