My Dad has a 2980. A couple years ago it got hit by lightening. It still comes on, but there is no receive or transmit. Everything else still works. What do you think this could be? We were figuring it could be the final, but wanted some input before I start on it.

My suggestion would be to take it to competent tech
and have him look at it. My guess is that there will be alot of parts blown not to mention traces on the board fried. It may not be worth fixing. I would buy a new radio for what it would cost to repair that one.

If it took a direct hit than toss it, if just a surge have it looked at chances it could be something minor, at least it turns on which is a good sign.Pop the cover and have a look anything burnt will be evident and as Train said if you're not sure have a tech look at it.
