Ok, so I get the rig from copper and it works real nice except for one thing.
I get reverse or backwards modulation on AM.
The radio had the copper alignment thing done and I am wondering if that is the problem.
I have it hooked to an Astron 70 amp power supply, so I know it's getting plenty of juice.
It performs this way on any frequency, at any RF Power output level. (dummy load).
Is there something wrong with it? Or is just characteristic of a typical RCI-2950DX?
P.S. It beats the everliving snot out of the Magnum 257 I had.

If you are using a regular RMS watt meter it may be normal.It is possible that the radio is a low level AM rig like most Ham rigs and this could be normal.Try a watt meter that reads PEP and check it again.My FT 920 shows reverse reading on AM but forward using a PEP setting.

What type of meter are you using to determine this.

I have been told that when you are getting backward modulation, you are overdriving the radio!!!!

Power supply is an RS-70M
Dummy load is a DL-2500
Meter(s) Radio Shack, Dosy, and Diamond
RMS/PEP same results.
Microphone is stock.
None of my other radios do this.
Just trying to figure out if I need to send it back in for a checkup. |

if it reads this way with a pep meter then id say
the dk is set too high.what is your dk.what happens if ya lower it to around 2-3 watts?
at this dk ya should have forward swing if not
either your vr for am power is set too high or
the tunable slugs for tx power are tuned too high

Thank you everyone for your input. I think I will give them a call and send it in, or have them send me another one. I can live without swing, but not backwards swing! |
