I picked up a Robyn 540d base with extra channels at a yard sale for cheap. It seems to have low receive! Are these radios really quiet on receive? Where would I look inside to bring the receive up?

Thanks

Ernie,
as old as that 540 would be,the first thing you might do is replace the electrolytic caps in the i.f. chain.I am starting to find a lot of bad ones in radios of similar age.I've never operated a 540 but a 520 was about as noisy as a uniden washington stock.

Great I can do that! What are the part numbers and where are they located?

The first thing I would do is clean the contacts
in the TX/RX relay. They are known to get dirty and cause the problem you're describing. I've had a couple of mine to do this as well. The other advice is great too.
