Hello all,,,,, i recently acquired a mobile radio,,,says SUPER GALAXY under the channel selector, has 5 bands, A - E, 5 DIGIT FREQUENCY COUNTER IN GREEN,AM/FM/SSB/CW,,,,THE MANUAL FOR THE RADIO DOES NOT STATE WHO MAKES IT,NOR DOES THE ORIGINAL BOX,,,IM GUESSING GALAXY,HOWEVER THE ONLY INFO I CAN FIND ON THIS RADIO WAS OFF RIGPIX DATABASE,SAYS MANUFACTURED IN 1985- , SO I KNOW IT WAS AN EARLY MODEL EXPORT....RigPix Database - CB, "Freeband" and more - Super Galaxy,,,,,, ON THAT WEBSITE THIS RADIO WAS LISTED WITH WITH OTHER SUPERSTAR RADIOS'S, NOT UNDER THE GALAXY LISTINGS,SO IM WONDERING IF SUPERSTAR MADE THIS RIG OR WHAT COMPANY ACTUALLY DID.... A FRIEND OF MINE THAT I SHOWED THE RADIO TO WHICH LOOKS LIKE IT WAS BARELY USED,SAID HE NEVER SEEN 1 OF THESE,,IT LOOKS IDENTICAL TO A GALAXY MIRAGE AS CAR AS APPEARANCE/CONTROLS,,, HE SAID THE 1'S U SEE THAT POP UP ON AUCTION SITES ARE USUALLY THE MIRAGE 88 OR PLUTO,,, HE HAS YET TO SEE A SILVER/CHROME FACE RADIO LIKE THIS SO IT MAY BE RARE & SOUGHT AFTER, I CANT FIND ANY OTHER INFO ON THIS RIG,ANY1 WHO ANYTHING MORE ABOUT IT THEN WHAT I LISTED OR WAHT IT RETAILED FOR ETC ??? IT SOUNDS GOOD ON THE AIR,GOOD AUDIO, I HAD A GALAXY MIRAGE A WHILE AGO,SIMILIAR RADIO AS FAR AS AUDIO & RECIEVE & FEATURES,,WAS JUST WONDERING ABOUT THIS 1 IF I SHOULD KEEP IT FOR MY COLLECTION IF IT IS TRULY A RARE/HARD TO GET EXPORT OF YESTERYEAR,OR DUMP IT ON THAT AUCTION SITE & MAYBE TRY A NEW MAGNUM FROM COPPER....... super galaxy, galaxy II, galaxy pluto....the early 'galaxy' radios. collector value ONLY for somebody who wants one, value to ME, in mint condition, i'd say about a buck or so. . mirage were galaxy clones. galaxy's were superstar clones. which were export president clones. who made the president exports? president europe, or superstar. then rci got involved. they make everything. and rebadge many. northstar & northpoint tried to outdo rci. using rci's radios. kinda like 'fred's peanut butter' relabeling skippy & trying to sell it as their own. for the same price. or higher. you can actually find the same galaxy model with different controls/control configurations, when manufactured from the early 90's & back. guess it depended on whose garage they put it together in. when the galaxy 88 1st appeared, that is when they began to get serious (not 'serius', that was another clunker/junker galaxy) about their radios. not that they were any better, but the originals were pretty crude! after i found grant XL's, i kicked myself for ever getting involved with galaxy. my yaesu did the freqs i needed at home. the modded XL did the freqs i needed mobile. i didn't need to pay for all the unused junk. and for 1/2 the price, it was 10 times the radio. or a 20 time increase . if the radio is mint & the cost was low, set a profitable reserve & LIST IT! the pluto was my favorite galaxy when i was a kid! looking back, i think 'pluto' sounded COOLER then 'II' or 'super'......

Thanks Pat, i figure u would have some insight on the radio for me, when i get back from vacation in another week, thats just what i will do,,DUMP IT,,,,,, im not sure if you own a Magnum Pat,i heard from a few people that the newer 1's with the mosfets are garbage, the mosfets are problem prone & heat up rather quickly making the audio fuzzy etc, whereby the older 1's that used the obsolete 2SC1969 for finalswere good 1's but the new magnums with the ERF2030s are junk, this came from a few guys that purchased them recently in staten island, they said very disappointed,, 1 got the s-3, the other got the s-9 i believe, they are looking to dump them already, i like how they look, read good reviews on copper from them, i dont know if that was the older models or newer models that the reviews were based on,i figure i'll treat myself to another rig once i dump the galaxy in the near future,,,,Thanx again pat for the comeback, appreciate it,,,and if u still saved that email i sent ya a while back regarding amps, get back to me on that some time when ya not to busy,im curious on your input,,,best regards
