DISREGARD LAST POST.......LACK OF SLEEP I SUPPOSE..........I FIGURED IT OUT.......YOU HAVE TO HAVE THE MIC ON THE LEFT SIDE KEYED UP,,,IN ORDER TO KEY UP WITH THE RIGHT SIDE MIC,,,I REALIZED THIS WHEN I PLUGGED A POWER MIC WITH NO BATTERY INTO THE LEFT MIC JACK,,AND WAS ABLE TO TALK FINE WITH MY 636 ON THE RIGHT SIDE MIC JACK,,,OK THATS SOLVED,,,,,ANY1 CORRECT ME IF THATS NOT WHAT THE SECOND MIC JACK IS FOR,,,I THINK I GOT THAT RIGHT,,,,GOT GREAT AUDIO REPORTS WITH THE RADIO,,NO COMPLAINTS,,,IM JUST WONDERING IF THERE IS AN INTERAL ADJUSTMENT TO BRIGHTEN THE S/RF BLUE METER L.E.D.,,THE NITRO KNOBS ARE OK & FREQ COUNTER,,,BUT WOULDNT MIND A BIT MORE BLUE ON THE S/RF METER,,,YES I KNOW THE METER IS A WHITE BACKGROUND BUT I STILL WOULDNT MIND IT BRIGHTER,,,,ANY ADJUSTMENT FOR THAT OR WILLI JUST HAVE TO LIVE WITH THE BRIGHTNESS IT IS AT ??? THANX IN ADVANCE

I CALLED MAGNUM TODAY,,,THEY SAID MORE THAN LIKELY WHEN THE TECH PERFORMED THE TUNE UP/.CONVERSION,,,THEY KNOCKED THE YELLOW TX WIRE FROM THE ECHO BOARD THAT RUNS TO REAR OF MIC PLUG LOOSE,,,,, LOOSE,,THATS WHY 1 MIC PLUG WILL NOT TX UNLESS THE OTHER MIC IS KEYED UP,,, SHOULD BE EASY FIX,,,ALSO NO ADJUSTMENT AS TO THE S/RF METER BRIGHTNESS OTHER THAN THE 3 POSITION SWITCH,,,,FOR ANY1 THAT WAS CURIOUS

Kill the Cap's already....

Both of my S9's will transmit from both jacks, anytime, either or. As for brightness....there is a switch to control that, right underneath the freq display...Dimmer...Low Med, High

Sorry about the caps,,,,as far as the brightness,im well aware of the switch under the fre display,,,i was referencing to an internal adjustment to make the S/RF METER BRIGHTER,,,i think its a bit dim compared to the rest of the radio.... yea Cap im glad your mic jacks work fine,,,i was referencing to if anyone else out tehre has had a similiar problem with theyre S9,,,, as far as the tx wire coming loose or the symptoms i experience with having to kep up the left side mic to make the right side mic work,,,, sounds like the tx wire came loose,,,since audio is coming thru/it works when the left mic is keyed up.....

Problem FIXED...........i removed the cover,,,,took a good look,,,,,,,,,,,,,,and low & beholdf......the yellow tx wire was broke off,,reheated the solder a where the tx wire went, placed in there,,,,and problem solved,,,,now my s9 is like Capt205,,,,works with either or mic jack,,,,,,and i didnt have to go thru the hassle of shipping the radio back & losing it for 2 weeks or more,,,considering i just got the radio,,,, sometimes if its a minro problem and u know a lil bit about radio's u can save yourself the frustration of sending it back,,,,,,a 2 mon fix literally,,,and you dont have to be a tech to do a fix like that,,,,,,so any other members if u experience a problem like i did,,,,u may want to check that out first,,,,before calling copper & repackaging the radio & contacting ups & waiting a few weeks for somkething u could have fixed yourself in less time then it takes to remove the screws from the case.......now i can play with it and have some fun....... thanks to all who replyed and offered any insight ........& a good weekend to all........

I also feel my meter needs more light. The freq/ch lighting is much brighter than the meter. Would love to balance them out better! Mine is the S-980 non-nitro...

i agree with ya 738,,,,when i spoke to the tech at magnum,,,,i asked if there was an interal adjustment on the S9 which is identical to yours except for the difference in r.f. output,,,,he said there was no adjustment,,,that it is dimmer than the freq counter 7 ch display & thats just the way they made them,,,i couldnt figure that 1 out,,,but i would guess the only thing u could do is add another blue led bulb for the meter to brighten/even out the brightness.

I ended up melting hole in meter bottom(so I would not get chips inside), and adding a bright white LED so I can see the meter! It came out well, and I still see the blue, and the red xmit. best of all I can dim all the way down, and still read the meter, and better than before...

Hey 738,,,, that sounds like what im planning on doing... Question.,.... did you add the white lef rather than blue because u thought the blue would be to much along with the rest of the blue l.e.d.'s,,,or is that the only color l.e.d. you had at the time ,or did u try to neutralize the blue by adding the white l.e.d. ? correct me if im wrong but there is a blue led installed in that meter from the factory,,,right ? i dont know why it is so dim,,,unless its where they placed it,,,,, i was thinking maybe the nitro knobs was taking away from the brightness of the meter bulb, but even when i turn off the nitro knobs,,,,its still dim,,,no difference,,, i cant figure out why they made the meter so dim,,,,even with the white background from the meter itself,,,its still way to dim,,,,im gonna follow in your footsteps in adding another led in that meter, its a must,,,,,be well brother

My main goal was to be able to read the meter! If I had lost the blue, but could read the meter that would have been fine. What happened was a good looking mixing effect that looks really cool, and I can read the meter! Still turns red on Xmit. I think the issue is that the LED's are under the coil housing. I may put a color changer on the other side, and see how that looks. When I find time. This week need to raise antenna another 20' and upgrade coax...

738,,, I will give that a shot so at the very least I CAN SEE THE METER like you said,,,,the red on tx isnt bad,,,that i can see much better than how the meter looks in recieve,,,, raising the antenna 20 feet should get u an increase for sure,as height means everything with cb radio... A friend of mine not to long ago switched from the antron 99 to the imax,,,which added 6 frrt right off the bac k,the imax being 6 ft longer, and also added an additional 5 foot mast,,,for a total off 11 additional feet in height,,,,, and changed his coax from the mini 8 to the thick stuff/ LMR cable,,,,, surprisingly enough his carrier did not change at all to me,,,and he said his recieve has not got any better either,,,,,he is approximately 16 miles away from me,,,,so its not like he's a local & thats why i didnt notice a difference,,,, other people he spoke with said the same thing,,,,his carrier did not change at all,,,,but then again the imax if im correct is only 2 db higher gain the the antron 99,,,,and it takes 6db's to equal 1 s unit,,,,so that type of gain would certainly not be noticeable,,,,, im glad i seen that it did not do nothing,,,,since it saved me the $ of changing my antron to the imax,,,at the very least he has a new antenna & no coax,,,,cant hurt of course,,,,, but recieve & transmit wise,,,,nothing was gained on either end,,,,, 20 feet higher should see a noticeable difference,,,let me know when u change it if u notice a difference,,,,best regards
