Hi,
hope someone can help me. I have dx 959
and everything works but the audio. the interal
and exteral speaker will not work (no sound)
also the P.A. will not work. it does transmit
and rec (the meter moves) just no sound.
by testing with another radio hooked up.
the other radio does rec the carrer and sound.
I have tried diffrent mic's but the problem
is still there. I think the problem started
when I pluged in a ext speaker with talk back
built into it and may of shorted something
in the output circurt.
thanks for any help.

Flashgordon,

Check your speaker wire plug from radio to speaker and make sure it did not get disconnected from the speaker.

Or has a broken speaker wire going to the 2 pin speaker connector/plug.

I checked all wiring for the speaker and
p.a. jacks & for the speaker. all looks
good there. i also checked the ext speaker
and found it was shorted. pluged in another
know good speaker and the same problem (no sound)
starting to look like it took the audio output
IC out. how can i check that without replacing it? or could it be something else?

The 959 I owned had the same problem and I found that the audio chip was mounted on the chassis of the radio right next to where the mounting bracket fixed to ,the legs were then soldered onto the board but there was a bit of a gap between board and chassis meaning the legs of the chip barely reached the points on the board they were soldered to and every time I was offroading the legs broke away from the board , I solved the problem by using short bits of wire to help bridge the gap a little more and it also helped out with the constant break in contact .
