I'm looking to buy a used car, my choices will be the Toyota Camry (V6)between the years of 2005 and 2008, or the Nissan Altima 4 cyl, type S. My 1994 Ford Taurus has had no problems operating with 2 and 3 pill amps but alas, my ford is getting long in the tooth- failing xmission, components, high miles, etc. Can the electronics/computer systems of either cars named above handle the rf of 380 to 400 peaks watts? Thanks in advance.
Wolverine.

Darryl,

Sorry been busy last 7 day's re-fooing house.

The answer to your question is YES they should both be able to handle the rf of 380 to 400 peak watts as long as everything is properly grounded / installed. And keep your dead key down to 1-1/2 to 2 watts inpuit power and LET IT SWING!

TECH 808, what is the max rf a computer in todays cars and trucks can handle without any trouble? Could a person run 5 to 6 hundred or is what you had already said the max?

Does anyone know if what TECH 808 stated above is the limit for power on all vehicles or can a person use more power before it will affect the vehicles computer?

Every car every and setup is different. 100 watts of RF energy can cause trouble to just about any new car if not installed and grounded properly. If installed and grounded properly, no short cuts taken, with the necessary equipment its possible to to have very high amounts of RF energy radiating from your late model vehicles ham/cb antenna. So there is really no set max amount of output wattage.

Thanks Hotwire for the answer to my question. In properly grounding I assume that one would have to place a ground at the radio and a ground at the amp and of course a ground at the antenna. One thing I do know is to try to keep the antenna as far away from the computer as much as possible. I use the center of another piece of coax to make my grounds with the shield left on so to cut down on any leaks of rf or any electrical noise down.. Tell me what you think and if you have any more suggestions.
