I picked up this radio as a project from craigs list and own one new from copper. First it has the switch mod for the amp, with the amp off it will hold dead key at 4 watts output with no problem, when the switch is turned on the radio will key 40-80 watts and hold it for around 6 second and will start to drop dramasticly 50 to 20... 150 to 50 ???? i am thinking the power supply or the amp it self. the radio IS SMT with 1446 on the amp section ... any in put on this would be great... forhead starting to bruse from slamming the desk..

yes it was checked on a 500 watt dummy load. Meter is 43p Bird with pep kit. been testing voltage and all seem's good , this is puzzling for sure. this morning i set it to 40 watt dead key no mike gain and threw a dead key for around 3 min, at one and a half min in power started to slowly decrese......But not to zero it will rop to around 10 watts or so.. Unkey and key back up and same thing 40 watt dead then starts dropping again.

In what I have seen usually if it slowly start to loose power it is the 1446. You might want to put an amp. meter and a volt meter to check the power supply. But, I still think you will find it is the 1446 being your problem. If I am wrong let me know, I could and alway's want to learn something new. Not every radio or problem is alike.
