They really are not that good of a radio. The newer ones are redesigned I think but I would pass on a used one unless you get a really good deal.

I would pass on the 150 or the 200. Cobra had as much luck with these radios as Ford did with the Edsel.

--Like the above posters said, it's probably best to stay away from this one. Make sure you see it in action, and if you are getting it local, ask to operate the radio at his location for 15 or 20 minutes, that way, you will see any problems that may occur (potentially...anything could happen after 15-20 minutes, of course). I purchased one a few years ago and a small capacitor or diode went out on it. The people I talked to regarding warranty work were really nice, and I sent it in and ever since then, it has been a good radio for ME.

--I do not know who made these radios for Cobra, or why so many were bad. It's a shame, really. It's a good looking radio, a bunch of channels, good audio reports with and without the echo, and has good output power: Mine does about 4 on low and 15 on high carrier (dead key) and around 50 or so watts PEP into a Bencher YA1 low pass filter, and an Autek Research SWR/Wattmeter, which is cheaper than a Bird wattmeter, but as accurate. The heat sink on this radio is the biggest I have seen on a radio that only dead keys 15 watts max, 50 watts PEP.

--I guess I am one of the lucky ones in getting a good Cobra 150 GTL DX, but I won't be getting rid of mine.

Well i bought it aganist the opinons of ever one. I have had it about a month now no problems, it says it was made in the philphines, or how ever you spell it, and i have always been told they were the better radio from cobra, but then again maybe all 150 were built there, i really like it but it will over modulate with the mic gain past the 3oclock position, love all the extra chanels, and if i do have a problem i found a radio shop close that does cobra and magnum wart. work. the 150 came with every thing the box stock mic manual and brackets, i do not know which version it is i did not see a date, but i am happy with it for 100 bucks, it just like a new one, wish me luck guys.
