Copper will take care of the conversion before they ship it. They say it will do 1000 watts but who knows. Set your dead key to get the proper dead key from the amp. Whatever the amp will swing (pep mode) divide it by 4 and set your dead key.
Lets say it does 1000 watts pep. Then you would set the dead key at 250 watts. According to the spec chart about 5 watts in will get you 250 out. Start with a 3 or 4 watt dead key and adjust accordingly.
Going back to the spec chart 50 watts in will get you 970 watts out. And the 40 -50 watt range is where the power from the amp starts to flatten out. You won't make that much more power by driving it harder. In my opinion you have too much radio for that amp.
I would look into a DX1600 (sweet sixteen) They are around $100 cheaper from copper and you can get a fan kit for it with the $100 you save. It is built with 2sc2879 transistors and will handle more drive.
