Ok so I have two base amps now that use 6LQ6 final tubes. I was thinking that the one that is one 6JG6A driver driving 2x 6LQ6 tubes would be a good candidate for a voltage doubler and a higher output single Russian tube. The voltage output is right around 900 volts and it is well regulated with a very very nice rectifer section. Because it is a 3 tube amp it has enough current to power a larger tube.

So I am thinking about doing away with the driver tube and the 2 6LQ6 tubes and installing one Russian GI7Bt tube. This tube can easily do 350-450 watts RMS. I would not get full power out of it though with a doubler so it would be a very clean 300-350 watt's RMS. This linear already has a very nice Pi network and is well thought out.

The other Base amp has 2 tubes and no driver at all. So the 6LQ6 tubes in it need a much stronger radio so instead of the 1-3 watt's most base amps take to drive them this can really take a lot more drive because it lacks a driver tube in it's design. So I will use this one as a base amp with a radio that has been peaked. A peaked single final SSB Radio should drive it nicely.

I am order's caps, diodes and resistors right now just to make them like new. It is kind of cool to look at the difference in the Amp's two radicaly different designs. The one amp could easily be a serious single band Amatuer Amp from it's time because it is so well built and laid out. The other looks like a High School kid built it as his first self designed project!!! Amazing to see the stark difference from one OEM to the other in not only design but the part's used in the circuits!

I was just wondering if any of you guys have modified a CB linear with Russian Ceramic tubes???
