my 959 went from 7 watts dead key with great audio -to full power =( 30 watts) and NO audio..... side band works fine .
anyone know what blew inside ?

Start with the alignment.
Check for a bridged solder joint.
Have you done mods around driver or final?
Check for bad zenor close to final.
Check bias voltage on final.
Is radio less than 2 yrs old? Send it in for repair.

More than likely is the mod amp. Part #b574. Can be replaced with the better #B817. Rear right of the radio, big three leg right by the power inputs.

Goats probably right. I thought about it after posting and the am amp is out of circuit in SSB mode so SSB would work OK. I've seen a lot of postings around the web about these being weak in 949/959.

I gotta 3900 that after tune up dk 3 and only swings to 6 watts
Its the original and has one 1969 final.could it. Be same thing

galaxy has gone to the 2sb827 on the new radios due to the trans going out.

yes ! it was the B 817 - i put a new one in & works fine - i heard if you volt the final- jump tp 7 & 9 together and connect the middle pin 8 to the 12 volt supply the B 827 or what ever part you have in there doesen't get too hot --.anyone have any input on this?
