I just got a Uniden Madison with digital clock and 8719 chip. It needs some tlc but my main issue is it will not transmit. Keying the mic the red transmit light comes on but absolutely no RF out of the radio, AM or SSB. Receive seems to be fine.
Should I begin by replacing finals? Any advice for this newby wanna be technician would be apreciated!
Thanks.

Check the final and driver bias, also check around biasing for bad caps or diodes. Afterward check the driver and final.

Hello I know that this is an old post but I too have problems with no transmit on my Madison, it is also a Uniden but mine has a digit scan and a FM kit that was installed, it worked for about 45 minutes and then quit, people have told me that it could be from the finals to the transmit transistor, but do you think it could be the finals, it too has the 8719 in it

Hello people, sorry for not getting back to you with my Madison but I got some bad news about it,
Well I found out that the shop that I bought it from had a 30 day used radio warranty on it so I sent it back for the repairs and when sending back it got dropped real bad so now I need to try to settle with the insurance with it, luckily I got a $500 insurance on it before I sent it so maybe things will work for the best but it can take up to 5 to 6 month to get it taken care of, I sent it USPS so it is just a matter of waiting for it.
But I want to thank you for your replies and helpful idea's on what you thought it could have been, if it didn't have a warranty on I would have given it a try.
Thanks again
Mighty Mite

When they settle, get a new Galaxy 2547. The older radios usually need to be re-caped or may have other problems. Copper has a good price on the 2547.
