I had this old radio for years and been in storage for a good while now. I dug it out and hooked it up and wanted to see how it was doing. Well lets say it didn't happen.

I turned it on and it had no sound but the green RX light does come on. When I tried to TX noting no wattage at all on the meter and the RX light went out but the red TX does not come on.

I tried 3 known good mics on it and still the same thing.

Can anyone help me with some advise on how to get this old thing back up and going again? What should I be looking for and where to start.

Thanks So Much In Advance For Any Help.

I'd start with the controls, spray them out. I have the same radio in different clothing and the pots were dirty. Once I get the shack finished I'll be re-capping both radios. Electrolitic caps go bad as do AM regulators. Anywho, radios go bad when they age and sit, just like we do.

There is a guy on the web at snake radio customs. Google the name and see the work he does on cobra radio's. I think u will find him reasonable. He can recap the whole radio and restore it back to new... Hope this helps

Dale, If your Washington is a Uniden not a President then it's the same basic board like the Realistic 450, McKinley, Cobra 142, Ward 719 etc. There were suttle changes, like if I want to tune this chassis as long as a pictorial is available then they are the same. If I need part #s then labeling is different.

yes my washington is a uniden. ceck your squelch knob, mine all the way counterclockwise has a click
which turns on the pa function and the rx will go quiet.and the tx light will not turn red ,but i turned to knob to the right it clicked and rx/tx came back 2 mormal.if ya tried that and it didnt work id try different mics or make sure your current mic is wired correctly if not it will also have issues your talking about.if ya done all this
then it could be more as parts or numbers i dont know .if ya got a trusty tech id take it to him
or ask about parts
