The preamp doesn't seem to work. I can hear the relay work when I flip the switch but the receive signal does not change.

welcome to the forum 805-I have no experience with the xforce amps, however i have been on their site and others doing research on amps, i can say this assuming your 4 watts is the key comming out of radio going into amp. your total output or pep or avg or rms which ever your watt meter has will depend more on what your radio swings 8 watts 12 watts or for export radio 30 to 60 watts. A straight 10 would need a driver since it dont have a driver transistor (pill). The exforce site should tell you the size driver you require to get max from amp. Im sure a another forum member will have the answer and will be able to help as soon as they see the post. If there is not a answer in a few days i will look it up on xforce and get back to you. In the mean time keep dropping the mall with the 10 pill..Boy am i gonna get in trouble for calling it a pill box---its in the medicine cabinet... good luck tons of info on site--and a lifetime of useful info from the dedicated members with years of experience and know how.

Thats what i get for jumping the gun----went to the xforce site and didnt see a 10 transistor unless i overlooked it---also i forgot to ask if it was a mobile or base unit----as the mobile units are much more complicated as to how you get your watts---honestly the members would need more info--such as radio key -radio drive-and swr is the biggy the higher the swr the more you will see... its best to use a dummy load to get a accurate reading on watts also a power mike could cause it to read more--- as a general rule of thumb transistors are rated in different watt ranges so if you have 10 of them rated at 100 watts each then 1000 watts would be good but then again to many factors and not enough details.
