I have an RHF-618 that recently developed an electrical type noise in the audio. Almost sounds like a bad power supply. I have switched the radio from AC to DC power and no change. I tried different mics as well. Any idea what could cause this or where I should start looking?

When you say like a bad supply are you meaning a hum?? Most people call this a 60Hz hum, but it's actually 120Hz.

Can you describe the noise better?

What happens if you disconnect the antenna?? Does the noise disappear?
When you say DC due you mean to a battery or a different type of supply (not sure if you mean the radio has an inbuilt one or not, as I don't know the radio itself).

Most noises are caused by either bad grounds, leaking coax or capacitors in the radio going bad.

Mics will very rarely cause a noise that "sounds like power supply hum" unless there is a grounding issue. If there is it could be just about ANY bypass capacitor in the radio.

OK, same DC supply, same antenna different radio, due you still hear the noise?

I'm suspecting the noise is coming form somewhere external to the radio, but trying to pin it down.

Kend - any chance you can email me a MP3 file of the npoise, it may help pin it.
